I am truly EXCITED! I just found out that my next clinical rotation will be in OB. Can anyone here tell me what I am in for? I would love to get into this area after I graduate. Any tips on things I can do while in this rotation to promote my chances of getting into this area?

Just be a sponge. Take it all in, ask questions, help out wherever you can. Ask to witness or be part of every birth and/or procedure you are allowed to......observe how things are done. Note, in your mind, those who seem to be mentoring types in the OB unit and try and work with them. There are some of us nurses who LOVE students (I do), others who are very busy and really are not the best teachers, but very good nurses. Just do what you can to help, stay out of the way as you can.
Enjoy your experiences there. OB was my favorite clinical rotation, and I am glad to be doing OB nursing now. I wish you the best of luck in school and in your career!!!

Just get as much overall experience as you can. Your experiences will depend on the type of unit where you work (LDR, LDRP, old traditional delivery rooms, what have you.....) Good luck and enjoy!

I just finished my OB rotation. It was amazing. All of the students during the roatation got a lot of hands on experience. Just remember to eat a good breakfast! I was amazed at how exhausted I was from watching a birth.
