I really need some advice bad

Published

I found out today that I didn't pass the TEAS test. I missed it by 10 points. My counselor told me that I need to put together my portfolio, with recommendations, achievements, and my test scores and try to highlight my strengths in the interview to see if I can convince the school to accept me. She said that I cannot retake the test. You can only take it once.

She said that even if I did take the TEAS again, my score probably won't even go up that much, which I strongly disagree with. I could have done better if I had been given more time to study for the test. I only had a week.

My counselor also said that not everybody even gets an interview, they just pick certain students that they think stand out most to them. This is devestating. I really don't know what else to do. I'd hate to start all over again and go to a community college. I left school for this program thinking I would get in...now I feel like I am being set back

I don't know any other places in MI that have a LPN program, I know of Everest but they are so expensive

Could anyone give me some words of encouragement and advice? I really need it right now

Well first of all if your advisor thinks you have a shot based on your entire portfolio then you should listen to her. It doesn't hurt to apply and see what happens. If you don't get in then look for a school that doesn't use TEAS or that will accept the score you have now.

Why don't you want to go to cc? If you end up having to take TEAS again then you may want to get a TEAS study guide and work on bringing up your score. Also if your school has tutors that can help you with test taking tips then you should talk to them.

Good Luck

I'm sorry!

Most schools will let you take the TEAS more than once. Sometimes no more than twice, but just once seems really harsh, since a bad night of sleep, having a cold, or some other temporary problem might make all the difference. I'm sorry your school has that policy, and you may want to check with someone else to be sure the info is accurate.

I agree that it's entirely likely you could do much better a second time, especially since now you know where you need to focus your study. I know that, for me, studying/practicing didn't really increase my level of knowledge, but it did greatly increase my speed on the math portion, which I think greatly increased my score over what it would have been without adequate study.

Remember that the school is just a means to accomplish a goal. Having to go back to a CC for your degree would not be the end of the world - in a year or two you'll be done and it won't matter anymore.
