O M G, I am soooo happy right now! Out of 585 applications, my name came up in the first 100, which means I should get into Spring 2014 at CCSF (they pick 50 for fall; 50 for spring). Nothing's set in stone until I get the official letter, but I'm still going to celebrate!!!
I picked up my packet earlier today and I told the lady that I couldn't sign up for 50. She told me that she'll contact admissions so I can sign up.
Oh FYI: after reading the packet, we need to get tdap if you haven't gotten the vacc after 2005, then you're going to need one. There's a national shortage for this vaccine, so hopefully you guys can call your doctor or pharmacy to reserve it.
Got my packet! Whoa, lots of things to do now.
Thankfully, I have all my immunizations covered. But looks like I need to do a physical exam (just did one this Summer, but packet says it must be within 3 months of first day).
I also still need to do CPR.
Does anyone have advice on where to buy "white nurse shoes" and the stethescope?
"White nurse shoes" pretty much means white, closed-toe, flat-soled shoes... slip-on or laces... You can pop for some Danskos or just go with a pair of generic "tennies" or "sneakers." Clogs are often frowned upon (the difference is whether they have enclose the back of your foot... some facilities frown on clogs so I'd go with shoes. Slip-on are preferred IMO since there are no laces to get contaminated with blood, pee, poop, vomit, etc. I'd also suggest spraying them with ScotchGard or some other sealant.
Stethoscope: Check Amazon, check Allheart, and just do a Google search. A billion different opinions regarding stethoscopes... my personal one is 'don't go high-end right out of the gate.'
Bandage scissors: Go with 5-in scissors... easier to carry around with you.
I also suggest a pair of kelly clamps/hemostats... a pair as in two devices... invaluable if you have IV tubing whose junction you can't get apart.
Congratulations to all of you... you're in for a wild ride.
