I passed my NCLEX on my 4th try

Hello everyone!

A little over 2 years since I have taken my 4th NCLEX and this time of the year is just a reminder of graduation and prepping for the exam that determines your career.

Bc seriously, even if you completed your BSN/ADN you're not a nurse without an RN license. That's what I kept reminding myself. All that STUDENT LOANS that I am now paying back, I HAVE to get my RN license!

So I am strong willed and persistent. I am a preventative thinker. I have to do what I can in my power, in my control, and at my best. The rest is up is in God's hands. Really.

I prep, prep, and prep. Everything, man. See below on my rant on and what I went through:

https://allnurses.com/nclex-discussion-forum/failed-nclex-for-754947.html

I'm glad I was able to help those along the way. My intention is to encouraged those who are discouraged. Believe be it's normal and natural to end up feeling that way. Failing sooo many times... what's the use right?

NO! Find another way. What I did differently the 4th time was used NCBSN resource, contacted my dean and got a free private tutor (my old professor) who coached me and walked me through it, and I saw a therapist.

My old professor assessed me and recommended that I see a therapist, that I may have test anxiety. I didn't get an appointment until 3 weeks before the exam! Due to the waitlist and so on. The therapist that I saw helped me through it all; he coached me and walked me through my mental state.

Each time I take the exam I approach it differently. You cant expect a different result with the same habits!

Best of all, God provides! My dean/professor service was free through the school. It better be since I paid thousands of dollars for the bachelor. The therapist was $10 per visit since it's at a university whom I saw grad students. The NCBSN course was $50.

I read some posts/threads where some individuals have said that those who failed the nclex should not be nurses. I have to disagree. The nclex is a test taking skill. I have a colleague who is great in our lecture course, but she's weak in our clinical course. She can't think on her feet. Poor thing. But she's great at taking her exams! Heck she graduated magna cumme laude 3.9 GPA. But she got kicked out of her new grad program bc of her clinical skills. You see what I mean? You need to be able to critically think on your feet and multitask in the real world. In the NCLEX world, pick the best answer.

Good luck!

You guys can do it. If anyone fails, take the time to grieve, heal, shake it off (2-4 wks), and take apply to it again.

2 things.

I have one buddy who passed her first time, and another buddy who not passed since we both graduated in 2011.

***The one who passed.

She did as I told her what to do and how to study.

1) Saunders comprehensive. THIS IS YOUR CONTENT BOOK! Read it cover to cover and complete the questions at the end of the chapter and in the CD. Nursing school all over in detail. Map out your calendar for 3 months. 5-6 days per week of 5-7 hrs study. 1-2 day off. Depending how much you can study. We mapped our her calendar together. Ie: it took her 1.5 wk to cover CV. This is the book that will cover EVERY ******* SYSTEM: CV, DM, EMERGENCY, and stuff nursing school doesnt cover that NCLEX will ask. It'll cost you around $60.

2) Kaplan - course. Learning the tricks. Can't learn the tricks if you dont know the content from Saunders! I learn better at the IN CLASS. Cost $350 ish. I took both in class and online. I recommend IN CLASS!

3) Comprehensive book. I mentioned in at my previous post. This is a hard book, but exactly like the NCLEX $20ish

4) NCBSN - if you fail and need to retake. Use this. This is the company who WROTE the NCLEX.

1-3 is A LOT of stuff.

ATI sucks. HESI sucks. not worth your time but it's required by school. why does it suck? bc their rationale suck.

Result of my friend who passed: she whined a lot. hahahhaa. Bc everyone on FB posts their updates on NCLEX. YOU WILL BE DISTRACTED. She wanted to take it earlier than we planned (Sept/Oct). But all her classmate took their July/Aug. You will feel pressured and school's statistic will tell you to take it within 60 days of graduation date blah blah blah. Guess what? I did that and look what happened me? I rushed it and failed. SMH.

So I told her to do what she wants, but whatever happens she would have to live with ;) lol. She whined some more but sticked with the plan.

HERE'S ANOTHER RECOMMENDATION - MIA FROM FB. lol.

She passed on her first attempt at 75 question! Awww yeah!

My friend who had not passed since 2011.

I gave her the exact plan as the previous friend who passed. But I added NCBSN. And recommended our dean/professor and therapy.

This friend had personal issues (family drama) and she gets easily distracted. And she's not disciplined. YOU HAVE TO BE DISCIPLINED.

When we were studying together, she was good at meeting up. When I had a day I could not meet, I encouraged her to study without me at the library. She ended up not studying.

After I passed, I meet with to help her make a study plan. She did not follow through.

Lack of discipline was her weakness. She is the go with the flow type of girl. lol. Til this day I could have dropped her, but I check in her and there to encourage her to take it. She ultimately have to push herself. I just have a compassionate spot for those who have personal struggle (like family upbringing).

Just thought I share!

Anyway! Good luck to you all. Hope my long msg is useful to some of you. :)
