June 26th, 2013 I crossed that bridge passed the nclex to become officially BSN-RHIT- RN!! (WHOOA LORD JESUS THANK YOU)
Let me start by saying this has not been an easy journey for me. I already had a degree that I couldn't use in the area of the country I was in. So I opted to go back to school to earn a 2nd Bachelors Degree!!! I worked full time at a job I hated 40 hrs a week and went to nursing school, I have two small kids and a husband in the military(He deployed for 1yr of my nursing school experience) I went to school an hour away from home (gas was no joke) during the day and on the weekends and nights I worked. I missed Basketball games, football games, family fun time, I lost friends cause I was studying or tired, my husband and I filed for divorce at one point, My kids missed me & I missed them.
I continued to do well in nursing school it was a struggle each semester. I really connected with some of instructors and kept pushing myself through I even made the dean list 3 of the 4 semester. At the end I must say I started out with over 70 students in level 1 at graduation there was 32 of us that made it, of those 32 only 8 had started with me in the beginning.
This has been extremely challenging and yet rewarding time of my life. I must say I proud of myself I came I started, I conquered and finished strong to the finish line. For preparation for nclex our school utilized KAPLAN through out the semesters and gave us the KAPLAN NCLEX prep for FREE!! I used Hurst for review of content back in Jan/Feb. KAPLAN helped me the screen, setup, question trainers and qbank was extremely similar to Kaplan. I had the min 75 q w/ 18 SATA, lots of priorty q, safety and infection control, drag and order drop, 1 peds question no OBS!!
I was extremely nervous with the new passing minimum being raised and I personally knew of about 5 people who had taken it since the change and failed. But do to my instructors, close family members, and true friends that called, encouraged, pushed me to go on I KILLED NCLEX on the 1st try!! I am grateful and humbled by the whole experience. I hope this can inspire the next person to keep going!! You got this!!
