I found this site a few weeks before I took my NCLEX and it provided me with so much insight into the NCLEX that I didn't have. My nursing class wasn't the type that kept in touch but yet I was given so much support and help from strangers. I am hoping that maybe I can help someone else with my insight.
I took the NCLEX on Wedensday and passed with 75 questions. I thought it was so easy that I must have failed. In hindsight I think I made the test out to be so much harder than it was. I was a good student but went through one of those 1 year programs for people that already had a degree. I looked at other nursing students and thought they knew so much more than me. I took the Kaplan course (it was paid by hospital) and to be honest did not use any of the strategies. My questions could not be ABC'd or Maslow or even assess before implement. I had questions were you had to pick between 2 airway patients. But Kaplan's Q Trainer Tests and Q Bank helped me sooooo much that I can't imagine having passed without it! And as for scores I GOT AROUND 60's with all!! Even the font is the same as the NCLEX! Anyway, I did buy Saunders and it did a great job of preparing me in areas that I was weak in or that I needed to brush up on. However, I found their questions to be very knowledge based and lacked the critical thinking aspect of the NCLEX. I found what worked for me and other people have found what worked for them because many people on this site liked Saunders. Using both, you can't go wrong. I also prayed alot and the reason I mention it is because no matter how self assured you are you need God to really help you quiet yourself and put things in perspective. Like I said, I made the test out to be so much harder than it really was.
The best advice is to put it into perspective: you passed nursing school and both A and C students have passed this. They are testing how you will be at the job and they don't expect you to know everything that is why you don't need to ace it!!! I was tested on stuff that I never heard of and when I looked it up at home I got it right because I reasoned it out and that is the key, don't rush just take your time and think it out....it is in there...have faith in yourself!
That is my advice to future RN's...good luck to you all!

first get 60 and 61 on the kaplan test is great. i didn't get that much. i think on t6 i go 63 and t7 57. i just recently took my test for the 3rd time and only got 75 questions. don't be scared. you will do fine. remember when you go in there to take you test only think about passing. don't think about all the people that are depending on you to pass or anything like that. i think alot of people get develop test anxiety before the test and once they get in there to take the test that anxiety is at its highest. my first two times i sure it was nervous along with some bad test taking skills. if you understand what they are asking you will do fine.

I am so happy for you. When I was reading your response, you sounded like me. I, too, did the 13 month second degree program. I did well, but I know that there is a lot for me to learn being that the program was faced paced. I am in the process of waiting for my transcripts to be sent the the BON. I found out earlier this week that this will take til the end of July or the first week of August. So in essence, I have about 2 month before I can take my boards. I am worried because for the past week, I haven't done any studying. I have taken the Kaplan class and I got a 68 on their Readiness test and in the process of doing the Q-trainer, I am still running in the 60's. I am just afraid that I am going to let a lot time go by. It is so easy to just sit on my butt. I don't want to lose what I have learned.
I am just going to have to get hot with.
But enough about me. I am really happy for you
I like to visit this website to hear of people passing the boards. It gives me hope. But you have really touched me, but you went thru a one year program like I did. I just wish I only had a month and not two months to study. Congratulations Ms. R.N.

hey! I'm new to this site... I'm going to take my NCLEX PN next saturday on july 8th... I'm very nervous... I've studied DEL MAR book and the CD with the 5 practice test, Lippincott CD and book, and I also did the NCSBN review which i only scored high 50 and high 60's. If i'm lucky I'll get like a low 70. I dont know if i should cancel or not... I feel like I'm not ready... What should I do?

Congrats Kelly!! I made it also! It is so good to have it behind me. I felt exactly like you. When I was in there I thought most of my questions were not too bad. The ones that I remembered were very specific and things that I missed. I started to get nervous and began to doubt my abilities. I used Saunders and also did the Kaplan course (my hospital paid for also) I don't really think Kaplan helped me that much. I did not really use many of the strategies, but I did use a few on questions that I did not have any idea about. I mainly used Saunders and did practice question after practice question. I could see the improvement that I made over the past 6 weeks since I began. It really helped me to retain the content. I learned so much. I also feel like it gave me a good feel for the questions.
I say all of this to also encourage fellow test takers that it can be done! Good luck to you and always know you have a place for support and understanding. We will all be here when you are fretting over your number of questions and waiting for the magic words PASS!!!!!!!!!!!
Best of luck!

Congratulations!
Your story is very encouraging.
Where or how did you get the Kaplan test practice? I will be taking my exam for second time and I am very stress because I run off time the first time (at 218 question, took too much time analysing question) and I don't that to happen again.
Thank you for your feedback and good luck with working or getting a job
