I usually wear athletic shoes. I have pes plorifice, and I need very supportive shoes. For me at least, New Balance is all that I buy. I have found much better support in those than in other brands, although I have also had decent luck with Nike Air. The main thing is not to go cheap on them. I tried that once and I wound up with plantar fasciitis, an experience that I had rather not repeat.
It is really trial and error, but when you find the perfect shoe, buy several pair as they quickly go out of style and become hard to find, making you start over. Many podiatrists also recommend getting new shoes every three months. I thought it was ridiculous until I started doing it and it makes a world of difference.
I agree it differs from person to person. Some swear by Danskos but they're tight on my right instep, so I can't wear them. I have 2 pair of athletic shoes I alternate from day to day. Don't forget the availability of inserts. They've made a huge difference for me and extended the life of my shoes. And I NEVER forget my compression socks! I loaned a pair to a coworker who had never worn them before, and she ended up buying several pair for herself because of the difference they made for her legs.

Hey friends. So I've been an OR nurse since I graduated in August. I love my job but I find my legs get tired after a shift, especially after those 12 hour or 16 hour shifts. One day I was covering another hospital's OR and I totally forgot my OR shoes and had to wear my moccasins with shoe covers. My legs and feet felt wonderful! Any suggestions on comfy shoes for the OR? I currently wear Danskos.
Thanks!
