I need a new life

Been a nurse now over 24 yrs. and being I have not been in the hospital setting for over 11 yrs now, no hospitals will hire me!! What is up with that crap? Sure, I'll need extra orientation but it just seems unfair. Nursing home sucks, I quit everytime. I can't pass the pills fast enough but they sure will hire you and pay you well. Maybe I quit way too quickly and did not give them proper time. I'd still be passing 5 oclock meds at 11 pm. And then told I have 3 admits when I was never shown where the paper is even! Where is the training now days? I'm so frustrated. I hate home care and working nights. Want to learn clinic but I don't know EKG's or blood draws. And they want clinic experience to boot! I better just get back into school and get my RN. Start over. Anyone else frustrated and burnt out?

Hospitals hiring LPNs has been decreasing gradually for years now. I know how you feel! When I returned to nursing 7 years ago after being out for a while I expected the usual red carpet. I expected things to be the way they were for most of my career, which was basically, "hello, you're hired!"

It was a reality check for sure! Back in 2004 I got very close to being hired at a large university related cancer hospital in my area so I know it wasn't impossible. I was hired at an agency doing private home care with vent patients and ended up really liking it.

There are so many new grads of RN programs either still job-hunting or looking for their first job, there is an over-abundance of them, which makes it all that much harder for us. People still talk about "the nursing shortage" but we haven't seen much concrete evidence of that lately.

I don't know where you are located, but I understand some areas still hire LPNs as people on this board have told me so I don't want to generalize too much.

Sorry for what you're going through, but you are not alone. And yeah. It's very disheartening. Best to you in your efforts to change your life for the better, though!
