I need Money

I need money. Like every other nursing student :p what are some great scholarships/grants I can look into? Im in Nebraska too if anyone knows of any scholarships or awards given to nursing students in this state.

Thank you for your time!

Your school would have the best information for you.

I'm going Monday but I was hoping I could find out some information before hand to start researching it and so forth. :)

nobody, but nobody, knows more about this than the financial aid office at the school you attend.

sadly, not enough people consult them with this sort of question.

make their day. go in and ask them.

You can try googling scholarship info; however, it is mostly a waste of time because you have to sort through all the ads and BS. Have you filled out a fasfa? You may find random scholarships here and there, but most of them are not enough to pay for school. This year I am using about 5 different scholarships and all but one is through my school. The one that is not through the school is through the Army (my husband is active duty). At my school, most scholarships are need based and you have to meet academic standards. Luckily, I have been able to maintain a 4.0; so, my school helps me out when it comes to paying the insanely prices tuition.

I worked all types of odd jobs during nursing school, strip clubs, sonic, and finally a magnet hospital as a nurse assistant. Scholarships are hard to get after your freshman year, but the nursing school usually has many scholarships that people dont apply for and dont really get to get distributed to students. Also some of the organizations at the school may have some scholarships like the Nontraditional Students Organizations, or possibly the pageants the school offers.

Another great source is the public library. The school library, if one is near, would be a good choice so you can talk to the librarian.

I just finished at the Financial Aide and ALL they gave me was FASFA (which I applied for just now and am waiting on that to finish). I meet with my student advisor Wednesday ad we'll see where she can direct me.

Definitely apply for every scholarship your school offers, especially any that require a written letter. I once received an almost $500 scholarship that only 2 other people applied for simply because it had a 500 page narrative required. To me, writing a couple of paragraphs was worth it. Also, look for work study, if you qualify, or any other student opportunities that offer scholarships/stipends. Good luck!

I did the Special Conditions Form for the fafsa because it put me over the 36000 and made me ineligible for aid. Next year fill out your fafsa on January 1 so you can get the most money that is avaliable at this point your just getting left overs.
