I need interview help for Med-Surg GN job!

Published

I would love to get advice from anyone who can help me out here! In my city, we are saturated with nurses, and I don't want to move. I have finally landed an interview on a med-surg floor. I already work in the hospital, but I am competing against other new grads who already work on that very floor as a tech! I got the interview because of many recommendations from other people who work in the hospital, but I'm obviously still up against a lot. This manager already knows the people who already work on her floor, and I don't know if she's trying to squeeze me in, too, or if I'm truly competing for a spot one of them might have otherwise. Anyways, I truly want this job for the education I'll get related to disease processes and also because I adore this particular hospital and because this floor and manager have a great reputation. Can anyone give me any advice, particularly ideas of questions I might be asked? The new grads who already work on the floor will have a better understanding of the med-surg processes and diseases more than I will at this point (due to the position I currently hold in the hospital). My strength lies in my heart and compassion, but what else should I try to bring to the table? Thanks a million! I hope this won't hut much! Thanks for your help!

Specializes in ICU.

So you already work at this hospital? If so, you have your foot in the door.

I think you're underestimating the reference that was given for you. Those go a long way in helping you get a job. I've gotten several jobs just by word that I am a good nurse. The interviews went something like this....

"I talked to so and so... and she said you are a great nurse, when do you want to start?"

Don't worry! Just be yourself, and if she listened to the recommendations, and she needs another nurse, she will hire you! I doubt that she is interviewing you just to waste her time.. You'll do fine.

If you get hired, it was meant to be,, if you don't get hired,, well then, another door opens somewhere else,, it may be for the best.
