I need a hug!!!!

I need to vent. I was just laid off due to low census. I worked at this hospital for a year. I worked every weekend and all holidays. The census has been low for 4 months. Nurses were getting cancelled left and right. I never once complained about being cancelled. I needed the insurance. This same hospital just laid off every LPN in January due to 'Magnet Status'. They let go of 6 nurses alone on our floor. What is wrong with these hospitals thinking nurses are disposable. What are they gonna do when census goes back up. This is the only hospital in this city. I could see if all the nurses were complaining about being called off but no one was. We have low census because tourists haven't been vacationing this year, which is alot of our buisness. Is this happening everywhere or just this hospital. The city north of here is hiring like crazy. Thier census seems to be fine. I am just sick and tired of being treated like crap by this industry. I have been a nurse for 13 years and it just keeps getting worse. I already have interviews so I am not worried about work, but how do we put a smile on our face and go to be grinded up all the time. Thanks for letting me vent. I love my patients and this line of work I just want respect :scrying:.

Good Luck jennypir! Come to California--we need you!

Hello Jenny,

I think this is a dark cloud with a silver lining for you. Sure, it is scary now but there are nursing jobs out there, you may have to look a little harder, maybe even move to another location, but the jobs are there. Consider yourself hugged and in my prayers for sunshine and rainbows soon. Blessings to you and your family.

No work still, it has been since Sept. 17th. I have been to several interviews where they are wanting more experience. One hospital had me interview 4 times. Each place has been at least 2 interviews. I dress up making sure it is appropriate, (no low cut shirts, cardigan, nice slacks, etc.) I have never had this issue. As a LPN I would go for an interview and be told come into work the next day for orientation. I have sent my resume to at least 20-30 places. I am willing to do nights even. Weekends are great. Holidays are even no problem. I don't know what I am doing wrong. All these RN positions seem to want a BS or multiple years of experience. I was an LPN for 13 years passing meds and an RN for 2 years, why is this not enough experience. I broke down crying after the last rejection. Any advice would be great. :twocents: Thanks.

I hope this works. I added a resume as an attachment with my personal info deleted. I figured it out. The document is attached.
