I am a pre-nursing student at QCC. I may finish my 4 pre-request courses this semester. However, as a immigration, and some other issues, I dont think i will get a very high GPA. I may get around 3.5-3.7 if I'm luck. The problem is the QCC does not allow student retake the pre-request courses. So what should I do if I cant get into the QCC's nursing program? I'm thinking about go to 4 year university, or go to private school. Since I'm 32 and have children to raise, I dont want to spend too much time on. Any other choice do I have? Anyone can recommend the schools which can be easier or without waiting list. I'm under great pressure now, please help me out of this. for the last question, what was the average GPA for last year?

Private schools will run you a little more money but there are no waiting lists typically and they will usually also accept lower GPA's. Don't put your faith into the CUNY system for nursing, the competition is ridiculous and not worth the stress.
thx for the replying, i will check on the private schools, ur answer is very helpful.

I am currently in Lehman College and hope to be in the nursing program by next year. I hear it is extremely competitive because CUNY schools are cheap so everyone wants in. They only allow about 100 students. In Hunter, they only allow 60. I did not know it was this competitive until I was admitted into the school. I'm apply to the nursing program in January and hope to get in. But I kind of wished I had attended a private school.
Best of luck!

do u know any good private schools around city or long island area? and is too later that u transfer to a private school?
Pace, Long Island University(has two campuses at diff locations-one in Brooklyn) and NYU are the three good schools I can think of at the top of my head for NYC, not sure about the long island area . But those schools are pricey. I was orginally accepted into pace as an undergrad but opted for a cuny school since it was cheaper. You can also try New Rochelle, or Monroe college. I would transfer but I'm already a junior and dont want to delay my graduation any further. I am waiting to see if i get accepted for the upcoming fall semester. If not then I will be transferring.

Another school is adelphi university in garden city long island. These private school you are looking at minimum 8,000 per semester but at the end of the day if you need to take out loans you might as well in stead of waiting around. NYU is more expensive but they give you a $2500 scholarship each semester so that helps. Maybe you can get some form of other financial aid. Someone said Molloy college in LI is another school. The LIU compus on LI doesnt o 4 year BSN it only does RN to BSN. Not sure how far in LI you are willing to go but stonybrook university is much cheaper cause its a SUNY school the waiting list is a lot less competitive

I attended and graduated from QCC this pass May. Still submit your application and hopefully you will get in.My GPA was a 3.75 but i knew people who got in with a 3.4 .If cost is not a problem then go to a private school.Bear in mind that the job market for new grads is quite tough in the NYC area so if you will have loans that could be a problem.I personally love Cuny as you get a quality education for a reasonable price

Hi I also graduated from QCC this pass Dec and I also knew a person that had lower than the required GPA so don't be discourage QCC is an excellent program the professors are caring tough love motto but care for their students they will make you into an excellent nurse if you apply yourself .
I can honestly say that I was lucky, blessed to be a qcc grad as far as my professors I will always remember love them . actually going to QCC for me has been one of the best decisions I made in my life yeey.
But if you feel like you want to go somewhere I'm going to give you a very good tip that many people are unaware of.
BMCC is the only cuny school where you can retake a pre nursing course and be considered with the new grade for that course . example let's say you got a C in A&P 1 at qcc that would be a suicide to your gpa and most cuny nursing programs would treat you as if you have Leprocy . but here is the fun part If you transfer to bmcc you can retake that course and then let's assume you get an A so that is your new grade .
In other words loop hole.
now let's change the scenario you get a C in A&P1 at BMCC you cannot retake that course at BMCC and if you transfer to any other CUNY nursing programs to the best of my knowledge that is your grade no retakes. The loop hole only applies if you transfer INTO BMCC .
good luck ,

Hell no! All cuny CC's allows you to drop undesirable grades if you transfer to one of them, this is only applicable to the first semester. I got a psychology course in my country in Asia which is a B+ and I retake it and got an A. Then I was thinking of transferring to bmcc because of my C in AnP2, but luckily I made it into laguardias rn program.
No they do not. As you stated you got an B+ in ASIA which is outside the US. so technically you can retake since that course was taken outside cuny system.
You also state that you was thinking of tranfering to bmcc but you did not as you got into laguardia. Had you not gotten into laguardia then you would be singing a different tone cause the only school that allos student to retake an undesirable grade is bmcc.
You lack the knowledge to how CUNy system works .
Many students that got undersiable grades at any cuny cc and unable to get into the nursing have transfered to private schools otherwise student who don't get A in pre nursing would just jump from cuny cc to another until they get that desired grade.
You are very lucky to get into laguardia with a C in AnP2 , as I stated in my original post their are nursing students like yourself who go into to the program with lower gpa . Is cuny cc competitive . You bet , is it written in stone that if you get a C you won't get into the program .No is not.
I wouldn't post that message if I wasn't sure. Either courses taken from Foreign countries or within CUNY CC's, yes, LGCC's registrar allows you to retake bad grades in your key courses during your first semester ONLY because I have a few classmates and friends from Kingsborough, Hunter, York and Barucch who transered to LGCC to get into our RN program. Trust me I know more about LAGCC's registrar than you do.
ps. I'm not mad....just trying to explain..maybe I'm mistaken about other CC's excluding Laguardia and BMCC and thats it.
