  1. Hi everyone! I just attended the NYP meet and greet event for new grads on April 28th. I just wanted to share my experience for those who are attending at a later date. you might find this information useful. When I arrived we got checked off from a list And wrote our names on nametags. Afterwards when our scheduled time arrived, we went into a room where there was A short presentation about the new grad program and the recruiter explained that this was the time for us to deliver our "living cover letter". There were several tables set up with specialties such as med/surg, peds, an orientation table and a critical care table. We scattered to the tables and tried to get a word in. The recruiters were amazing and answered the questions that we had. but honestly I don't think it matters how well you sold yourself at this meet and greet. Ill tell you why. The recruiters would politely listen to your living cover letter, take your resume and put it down on the table, on top of everyone elses who were handing theirs over. They didn't even LOOK at the resume as you handed it over. The whole event was an hour long. We were told we would receive an update in 2-3 weeks telling us if they will be moving forward with our applications or not. It really narrows down to who you know and your qualifications. I just graduated in January, obtained my license this month, and have almost two years experience as A cna. But I can tell you this won't be enough :-( My advice: network network network if you are doing clinicals there. This is the best time to build that relationship if you want in! Best of luck
  2. Thanks for responding Mewsin! Thats exactly the answer I was looking for. I just wanted to make sure that the hours will be descent. I am going in for my interview in a few so we'll see. thanks again!!
  3. Hi everyone! Long story short I am a student nurse who will be graduating in January 2014. I have been in search for a nurse tech/nurse aide position for quite some time and finally got a call back. problem is..its a per diem job! I need a stable income because I have to pay tuition, traveling expenses, food, phone bill etc. (I go to a private school so as you can imagine this is alot). I currently work in retail, and have held several retails jobs back to back since 2007. I do not know if it is safe to leave my job for this per diem job. I don't want to miss out because of the experience I will gain and because this will help get my foot in the door when I graduate. So my question to all of you is do you think it's possible to keep my part time job AND have the per diem job. And for those who work per diem, what are your shifts like? Do you get to pick your own schedule? thanks in advance!!
  4. Im not sure about hunter but lehman requires the HESI A2 for admission into the program. This year they tested only on A&P, Math and reading comp. I dont know if next year will be the same. You must score at least a 76 on each section.
  5. That's actually where I decide to go. 5 semesters isn't do bad :)
  6. Oh okay. That's a lot of classes for one semester lol. I'm taking bus 105 from 4:45 - 7:15 on Wednesday
  7. your welcomee!! Yes i took the TEAS V. It was required which sucked. I did horribly but they needed a 59 in order to be considered for admission.
  8. Hey! There are clinical sites in all the boroughs. They have a list on it on their website New York Nursing College | NY Nursing School Clinical Affiliations
  9. Congrats !! I go for advisement June 22nd , what about you? & I'm not sure what grades they accept for pre-reqs. I think the website states they will take B's or C's. Check just in caseee
  10. They will let you register. Just bring it to their attention that on the website it says it can be taken along with your nursing courses. I think their concern is that it may be a heavyy workload for you. I have to take into to computers but I will take it in the fall. They called me yesterday to make my appointment. I am meeting with the advisor on the 22nd of this month
  11. Hey!! Yes I will be attending CNR. I start my clinicals in the fall though. All I needed was nutrition which I am taking in July at Lehman. How many pre-reqs are u missing?
  12. heyy!! got word from my friends all of them except one got in!! the one who didnt also failed the hesi
  13. Has anyone else been accepted as a transfer student for the nursing program for fall 2012? If so what was your financial aid like? Any grads out there who can give some feedback on the program? THANKS!!
