I am new in this forum and I always visit here even if I wasn't a member yet to look for answers. I'm 23 and married. I'm here in californina and currently taking my pre-req for the LVN program, my husband is on and off with his job and we are really struggling financially. I work part time (5 hours every saturday and 6 hrs on sunday) but the little money that I earn help us for groceries and for gas. My questions are, how can I get a loan if we don't have any collateral? Any suggestion where/what company should I consider in getting a loan? Is there a 2 year loan? Will the money that I would get from the loan sent to me or it will be directly sent to the college? I may have more questions later...thank you for reading this.

You need to go to the financial aid office of the college you are attending. You also need to have your most recent tax return to fill out the FASFA in order for the college to determine what kind of financial aid you are qualified for. There are many different opportunities for federal grants and loans that don't you don't have to start paying back for six months after you are done with classes. Some of my loans were even waived because I was a nurse in an underserved area.
Good luck.

Most definitely contact the financial aid office at your school. Not only can they help you with loans and grants, but they will also have information on all kinds of scholarships you can apply for. My first time going to nursing school (LPN) I qualified for a grant, loan and a small scholarship. I have since returned for RN, BSN, and MN--each paid for with loans and scholarships.
Good Luck and welcome to nursing!!

Im planning to take the test for the first time. Can anybody please advise what form do i need to use or do i have to start all over again for application? Do i need to contact again my school in the Phil. to send paper works to the Board of Nursing? Please advice it will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the suggestions, I talk with the school counselor yesterday and applied for fafsa, hopefully I can receive a little money and that would really help. She also indicated that it might be too little money that I need to get a student loan. She did not answer most of my questions...I'm enrolled in a junior college.
Perhaps when your FAFSA comes back the counselor can give you more information. Most school have a bulletin board with scholarship brochures. Also check with local nurses nurses associations and there are some web services that can help you look. The nice thing about scholarships is you don't have to pay them back!
