Also, make sure you overlook us "first year" nurses who have troubles in the beginning. It does get better....it slowly is getting better for me. I still have my "days", but all in all, it is getting better. You will learn as you go, learn as you grow. Good luck and keep positive.
Don't take yourself too serious. I am 2 months in and I am finally relaxing a bit. You are going to make little mistakes everyday, in the beginning your assessments are going to take a very long time and you will still forget something. Don't beat yourself up over it, nursing has a huge learning curve. Acutally, it doesn't feel like a curve at all, it feels like I am scaling a vertical wall. I am finally finding footholds and handholds in the wall I am climbing and feeling more confident and better at my job every day.
Despite feeling incompetent at times, I have always loved my job, and getting a big paycheck is an awesome feeling.
