:uhoh21: :o I graduated HS and I know what I want to do in my life...Ive always wanted to be a nurse...I am so confused I don't know where to start either in a trade school or in a community college...I know I want to be a nurse maybe start as a LVN and from then on continue my education to an RN or NP...I just dont want to start sch. and then regret thinking I could've gone to another sch. Some ppl say community college is better faster and others trade schs...(im confused)I'm not sure where to start. I don't have anyone to ask q's so when I saw this site..I got very excited and hope to get some help here!!From people that I know could help me!!!I live in Los Angeles so if somebody could tell me about some school in L.A. where they went to or give me some advice on how to start I will really really appreciate it!!!! -Thanks-

Betty, the first thing you need to do is calm down. You are very young - I know you don't believe it, but it's true - and you don't need to figure it all out today.

If you are in California, I would completely ignore the LVN option. From what I understand Cal is very stringent with what an LVN can do and opportunities are limited.

Why not enter your local CC and work on your prereqs and build a solid foundation to either an associates or bachelors in nursing?

Thanks For The Advice...i Was Actually Thinking Of Doing That. Geting My Bachelors In Nursing...and After That What Could I Do Next????thanks Agagin For Your Helpful Advice!

Check out the pass rate for the NCLX for your Community College, ours has a very high pass rate. Most of the Hospitals in our area would choose the ones graduating for our Community College than the UN. I am going for my RN. You are young and have time, take it and get a good foundation that is a key. Our school did not require us to take medical terminology but it would have been such a big help. If I had to do it over I would take that class.

Best of luck

Thanks for your advice ruready I find it very helpful.!!!Thanks

I think you should just go for your Bachelor's now. Why have to go back to school later? Once you are out, it's harder to go back and a Bachelor's is good to have, especially as an RN.

But I Have To Start With My Asociates...then Bachelors...in Nursing Right???

No, you can apply to a Bachelor's program right away as long as you have a high school diploma or equivalent, just look into the program you are interested in and see what requirements they have, like what prerequisite courses you will have to take before entering the nursing program.

Go to one of the sticky's in this same forum that it about exploring nursing. It has some great sites listed that can anwer alot of basic questions. It also really helps to talk to an academic advisor in person. Call up a few of your local community colleges that offer nursing programs and schedule to meet with the nursing program advisor. Don't worry. It'll all become clear soon.

I like the associate's route for an RN first; you can get right out there & see if it's for you, plus you've acquired some credits for another pursuit. I learned more about nursing when I took classes with business students!
