I have been accepted to an ADN program and I was wanting to start preparing as soon as possible. For those of you that have BTDT what would you suggest? I know I will need help in the math for meds dept. Are there books or sites that you would recommend? Thanks for any and all input.

First of all, Congratulations!!! :yeah: I have to be honest... even with the $1000 in nursing text books I own, this site has been the single most helpful thing I've found (I'm 2nd semester ADN). Other than that, find someone who is in the program you'll be starting and ask for a book list... you may save money by finding them on Amazon as long as your instructors don't change them before you start.

I sometimes wish I had spent a little more time just enjoying life in the time between being accepted and starting school... you'll barely have a chance to breathe through the program!

I suggest if there isn't any prep recommended by your program that you enjoy your vacation!

Honestly, med math is not that hard. It is 98% cross-multiplying fractions and converting from the American system to metric. That's basically all you do. If you really want to get ahead, learn your conversions--pounds to kilograms, grams to milligrams, ounces to milliliters. (I would skip grains in the old apothecary system until you get to school--They're stupid, and you just have to memorize them and hope you never have to work with an ancient doctor who prescribes things in grains. There are only a few conversions to learn for them, so you'll have plenty of time in school to do that.)

Congrats!!! I agree with relax and enjoy yourself!! You'll be so busy in the next 6 months. If anything in your personal life needs to be addressed do it now. I'm on Spring Break now and for most of this week I will be taking care of things that I just did not have time to do. Like going to the DMV, going to get my yearly GYN checkup and going to the dentist. Yup, thats my sprink break fun. LOL! But I know I just don't have the time to do it during school.

I agree with the above poster. Dosage Calculations are not difficult. I just took my dosage calc test and got 100 on my first attempt. 100 is passing for dosage at my school. But its really not that difficult. Trust me, I struggled with math. It was my only weak pre-req.

If you are starting with Fundamentals, I highly reccommend that you get Nursing Fundamentals Rationales and Reviews.
