Hi.. I am a medical assistant. Usually I am really good at this. But for, I am not sure what reason.. I have been making up blood pressures for babies, and children and also the oxygen levels of most patients... Yesterday I got caught. The patient had asked the nurse if someone was gonna take her childs b/p and o2. She said the assistant already did.. The mom was like, NO she didn't ... Then the nurse asked me if I did, I said yeah.. Big mistake.. I am not sure why I lied, or even made up the vitals in the 1st place.. Then today, I did the same thing.. I made up the 02 for a patient.. I put 96% and I guess the patient was admitted to the hospital recently, and needed 02 help.. So he was curious to see what it was.. When I had 96 he was like wow.. Then listening to his lungs, he decided to check it himself.. It was only 80%.. He hasn't said anything to me, but I heard him talking to his nurse, whi is somewhat my boss.. I am not sure what to say or even think... I just feel ashamed.. Especially thinking what are they thinking about me... Like that I am a bad worker.. And questioning my past work. What should I do to make this right.. I am not going to do that ANYMORE, and I will be making sure vitals are done on everyone. But what if I get asked about the situation what can I do or say????? Please help me..........

For a time I wondered if the OP was BSing myself - like people who used to write odd letters to Ann Landers to get attention. In some ways I hope it is BS.

BOOOOOO BOOOOOOOO

you suck!

You are only worried for yourself. You don't care about the people that put their trust in you as part of the team to get them well, you just care about yourself.

How many times before have you done this? I think you have done this since you started working as an MA.

If I were those RN's that caught you, or even LVN/LPN, I would have you fired because I do not want you to be working under my lic. For the crap you do, they will get in trouble too! I hope that pt. with the 80% sat tells his wife, or un-forgiving kids and they sue you! Ever think of that? Most loving families are on top of their love ones health care!

He probably go discharge and was in for a followup days later.

If you are considering going for your RN, DON'T. This isn't the field for you.

If you can't handle rooming 4 pts. then how you going to handle the FULL RESPONSIBILITIES THAT AN RN HAS?

What you going to do, fake giving blood, fake that you made sure that they don't go into reactions? People that are fake, get caught and have a bad rep that never goes away. I won't even go into ICU, that is where I work and I do things myself because of loosers like you! The ICU nurse will have you 'pegged" right off and you will want to resign, because we don't take crap like that!

Consider doing the altruistic thing. Fess up and resign. You will have more of a chance of them respecting you.

God will spank you with Karma!! And I hope I can watch!

All I have to tell you is that I think you have made a huge mistake by sharing such information on a public board. I don't know what legal obligations an MA has, but if a nurse had told this story, my only suggestion would be to clam up and see an attorney.

I work as a veterinary technician. If I were ever to fake a vital sign, lab test, treatment or anything I would be fired on the spot. I'm surprised that anything like this could be done in human medicine because your patients can talk. I cannot believe anyone could be so uncaring and dangerous. I do hope that you get some help and get into a new profession. Please don't go into the veterinary field.
