I’M POSITIVE!...BUT IN A BAD WAY

Nurses LPN/LVN

Help! I work in LTC recently they had us take the covid testing the two day antigen testing instead of rapid testing and I came back positive. The only symptom I have had is a mild sore throat that goes away by the end of the day. Well I have a bit of fatigue too, but I’m always tired even before this pandemic hit so it’s hard to tell :). I’m trying to isolate from my family but we share a bathroom. I’ve taken out my tooth brush and shower 2-3 hours before they wake up to scrub it down and air it it before they wake up. Also I’m trying to pump myself with vitamins. Any other suggestions on how to get through this? I’m so disappointed in myself for getting covid and now my family is at risk. Any nurses who have been positive? How long did it take to recover? How did you protect your family?

I got covid from an unknown source. Don't beat yourself up... We can't be at 100% proper PPE methods 24/7 while working.

I was tired for about 3 days, had a cough close to 10 days and low grade fever first three days with muscle aches. I was pretty worried at first since I work in a critically fragile unit and I technically exposed them the day before I developed symptoms. No one at my work came down with it despite only wearing cloth masks. I guess my paranoia for cleanliness payed off.

I live in a small house and I couldn't quarantine from my family so they all most likely got it. My wife had a cough for a few days and the children all had sporadic minor symptoms that never counted as anything.

Personally I doubt your toothbrush really will affect much. I'm assuming you wear a mask at home right now?

If you are sharing a bed its likely a lost cause. Otherwise, you might be able to do it but you need support too and while it can be serious, it generally isn't for younger people although I know nothing about your family.

If its not too cold where you are, you could open the bathroom window to air it out well.

Thank you both for your advice and comments! I really appreciate the reassurance.

Please do not be disappointed in yourself. You did nothing wrong. I read on a previous thread you still want to be active in nursing. Could you make a deal with your family that you will take online courses now for your RN, pre reqs. Unfortunately if you do not work as an LPN the vaccination schedule will take time until it reaches you. Can you explain this to your family?  working = vaccination = makes them safe/
