I would like more insight and opinions. Now the community college in CT is offering a PCT program this fall which I would love to take. The question is, already halfway done my A.S. in liberal studies...would it be a better decision to just get into a LPN program? The reason I ask this is because I'm really tired of working jobs that aren't gearing me towards any kind of goal. I'm 22 and if you are like me my mind want's to make the BEST decision...and apparently life isn't like that all the time. I'm at a point where I want to make enough to live on my own and be independent. Now I'm not saying I want to get involved in nursing for just the pay...that would be defeating the purpose of even considering it. So anyways... a 3 month Patient care tech program or LPN and working towards my BSN?
I went the LPN route. If you want to work in a hospital I would go with CNA, to get your foot in the door at the hospital and experience. When I graduated from my LPN program they changed policies and stopped hiring LPNs at hospitals in my area. They always need CNAs and PCTs at hospitals. If you are interested in another area such as home health or psych nursing than I would go with LPN. Hope that helps. I had the same questions before I started school.

I agree if you know you want to be an RN go right for that. I went back to school at 26 and went full time for my BSN. Most hospitals want you to have ur bachelors degree. I worked as a Cna or patient care tech all through nursing school. There is no need to take and pay for a class where you won't have to because clinicals make you able to work as a Cna or patient care tech, at least in my state. I never went to school to be a Cna or pct. my nursing clinicals made me qualified for the job. Good luck.
