So I currently work as a CNA at a nursing rehab center, and I don't like it. I don't hate it but sometimes the workload can stress me out so much that I dread going back. Sometimes I have up to 18 people and I know I just can't quit on the spot but I try my best to get everything done. I also don't like how the residents get very demanding and catch an attitude with me when something doesn't go right. I am only 1 person and it's hard to attend to all of them when they are so demanding. I can't stand it.
There are some days where I have good coworkers and a good assignment, and the day is good. However, it's not like that every time. It's hard for me to remain positive when the job is going bad. Now I'm in nursing school and so far so good but I am worried that I'll feel the same way if I start working as an RN. I also feel like I won't like the Med Surg setting, I feel like it'll be so stressful for me and I don't like working under so much pressure. I want to work in a setting where you can plan out your day and go accordingly. For example, I could never work in the ER, I wouldn't even think about it lol. But I work best in a cool calm environment instead of fast paste where I get so nervous I can't think right
Ugh I don't know, and I am scared to even admit that nursing isn't right for me. Maybe I just need to have tough skin idk. If someone can please help me with this before its too late :(

Well you do know that nursing has many options! You don't have to work in a rehab, or hospital setting! Dont give up, look into the different settings you can work in!

No matter what career you pick ... you will have good days and bad days. You will like some co-workers and not others. Sometimes it will be more stressful than others.
How do you feel about actually taking care of the patients? Do you enjoy that type of work or not? That's the most important thing. If you like it, then maybe nursing is for you. If not ... and you can't imagine liking it with other types of patients (e.g. outpatient settings, pediatrics, psych, etc.), then nursing is probably not for you.
But there are lots of different types of work settings and patient populations in nursing. Don't assume that because you don't like your current job that you won't like any nursing job. Think it through more deeply before making any life-changing decisions.
Thank you for the reply! I do like helping people out, especially if they’re so vulnerable. It makes me feel like I’m actually making a difference. But like I said I don’t like being stressed out. Do any of you know what specific nursing jobs would be the best for me? It’ll be a big help! ?
@3ricaaa I used to do pediatric home health. Some of the cases can be pretty laid back with the nursing care they require. You can make a schedule of 1 or two patients that you see in a week.
Then theres also home health wound care.
Another avenue is wellness nursing.

There are numerous different pathways that nursing can take, And new ones popping up all the time. My school nurse position is pretty chill. But.........if cool, calm nursing positions were a dime a dozen, there wouldn't be any nurses left in med surg. You do have to pay your dues and get experience. Nursing school is very hard and stressful. The first year of nursing is very hard and stressful. I would recommend being pretty sure that this is what you want, before getting in deeper and regretting it. Also, there are a lot of medical specialties that aren't nursing, but you can feel like you make a difference. Everything from physical therapy tech, to ultrasound sonography, etc. But in any specialty, you gotta do the hard work before you can reap the benefits. Good luck!
