I have been to several rotations/clinicals in hospitals, Home health and Nursing homes and I loved them all except one......the ER. I didn't like it because the person that was to lead me around was not very friendly and she didn't show me anything etc. it was just a bad experience. Well, now I am going to precept there at the very same ER but with a different nurse. I just want to know from those of you what you would expect of me? it is a 48 hour stint and I am just hoping that I get off on the right foot. Thanks so much!

Chances are, you won't even see her... and if you do, oh well! :) Smile and kill her with kindness. You will be so busy with your *great* preceptor and patients that it wont matter.
As far as what they expect, each and every preceptor is different. Let them know that you would like to do as much as you are able. Ask lots of questions, and they will take you through those 48 hours.
It is a good opportunity to get some IV starts under your belt, and see some of the ailments that never make it to the floor.
Good luck, and have fun! :) Ivanna

I precepted in the ER in our public hospital (where the indigents are taken for healthcare)... it WAS a great learning opportunity to see some colorful stuff you'd never imagine on a med/surg floor or OB, etc.
And it IS great practice for IV starts - especially if you have a high rate of intoxicated patients like mine did. They don't mind as much when you have to try again.

Just ask any question that pops in your head such as protocols for abd pain, chest pain, stroke and stemi alerts. Ask about advice on how to start IV's. If you show an interest for learning, you can't go wrong. I've had some preceptors that are helpful and others acted like the task is such a burden.
