Published

I just wanted to share my great news !!!! I graduated from LPN school in 2009 and have over a year experience working as a nurse. Today I just found out that I got accepted into RN program. I only have two more semesters and if all goes well I will be graduating Dec. 2011. I have 2 weeks to get my self together emotionally. I know what nursing school is like and I'm ready to go through all the ups and downs of it. Just wanted to share my great news !!! :o:redbeathe

Sweetbabylpn. I know how you felt. I wacthed my lpn friends graduate while I was still taking prereqs. I also had to take a year off school to work and support me and my husband. Now I finally have a chance to achieve my goal again. You will get there. Good luck.

Best wishes!!! awesome news!!! Some advice, just remember that what happens on your specific place of employment can differ from what they teach you in school. (I was a PCA before being a nurse, some of the things I was taught in school were not protocol/practiced on my unit)

ie: In school, there was always a huge debate on what to do if a pt c/o chest pain. On my current unit, it is acceptable to get an ekg, hook pt up to o2 (depending on pt/PMH/o2 sat etc) before an order is written (they ALWAYS write an order later/would never question that decision per RN...I'm on a vascular surgical floor) HOWEVER- in school, it was taught as not appropriate to do such interventions without a previous order.

Just go by the text book when you're ready to take the NCLEX and although experience is a tremendous benefit, clear your current workplace's protocols from your mind before taking a test if they differ from what you are taught.

CONGRATS!!!

Julvacc Thanks for the advice !!! I already told myself that I am not to function as a nurse as I normally would working. I am an RN student nurse and I am there to learn. I will ask lots of questions and will not be like some " know it alls" . I wish my instructors knew I wasn't a nurse but they do. I just hope they don't expect more out of me. ( they probably will ).

Congatulations and good luck!
