  1. I think it is def. easier for men to get a job in nursing. Managers like their physical strength. Now this is just from what I have seen, although I know this is not true. I know a couple managers who specify to the recruiter that they prefer men, I think this may be illegal. As for RT vs ADN. Why not go for your BSN? Not sure what part of the country you're in, but I think they are trying to phase out the ADNs. RTs are awesome but I think nursing is so much broader in practice. Never gets boring!!! Good luck with your future endeavors!!! Happy Easter!!!
  2. I would contact a lawyer specializing in nursing matters, this will affect getting a new job so you want to know what is being written about you and defend yourself. Sadly, i have found in these matters everyone is out to cover their own butt.
  3. congrats!! and yes there are jobs out there!!!!
  4. I used the Springhouse Med/Surg Review. From what i remember it was a lot of pearls and review of basic concepts. Some people prefer Q&A type review books, some people also learn by lecture style review courses, so it's personal preference. The key is to just review. Some of the sr nurse thought it was silly for me to buy a book and review, they said the test was so easy for them. Well good for them, I had to review. Good luck!
  5. Congratulations!!!
  6. I think a lot of programs prefer you have either SICU or CTICU experience. They want you to have experience with swans and cardiac meds, so I think CTICU is the best experience.
  7. Hi skyleap I am pre-pre CRNA and looking at different programs. If you don't mind can you share your stats and why you chose to apply to downstate... I heard not so great things about the program ( since it lost its designation a while back). how did your interview go what did they ask you???
  8. don't get too ahead of yourself nissan. you'll find your own style once you atart working. for now just concentrate on school- pharm has a lot to remember.
  9. i never answer calls from work. they get their own ringtone- my manager knows to leave a msg and I'll call back if I want. If the floor is short on a routine basis the hospital will just have to hire more nurses. Unfortunately they won't know that until something happens! Are you unionized by any chance?
  10. fentanyl and midazolam are our mainstays. we limit propofol for the hard to sedate. I think we are trying to use precedex more, not sure the rationale but I think it's more expensive.
  11. pinkpig replied to AllAngelsRN's topic in MICU, SICU
the CCRN is just a basic overview of a lot of topics. If you watched the Gasparis DVDs, and the Pass CCRN questions you are fine. Don't over think it.
  12. what is it about the icu you hate so much? patients? family? MSa? other nurses?
  13. feel the same way... I rather be at the bedside and actually do my nursing care. I know it's illegal but I know nurses who write what they should be doing instead of actually doing it!!!
  14. I think delegating task is one of the hardest things in nursing.... I like to write e-mails to my manager when I have issues b/c I like to have everything in writing and a response or a lack of one in writing too. It's tough when the person you're having problems with is also pregnant, I can empathize-looking for an answer myself on that one...
  15. i know prbc lyses with D5W but what about platelets???
