I got accepted for this fall!!

Hi, I just found out that I have been accepted for this Fall to the nursing program at University of Missouri Kansas City. I am soooo excited! Because I am a late acceptance, there is so much that I have to do like get my immunizations, go to orientation, take CPR and visit with the admissions in order to get into some of the classes that I am going to need.

My family is happy that I am going into nursing, and I have been doing my pre-reqs for 3 years now. The problem is my mother and sister. They are upset because it is 45 min. away from my house and that I will have to put my two youngest kids in before/afterschool daycare and not be available if there were an emergency. My kids ages are 7, 9, 13 and 15. She is also concerned that the two oldest will be home alone after school, and the trouble that they could get into. I told her that other parents put their kids into daycare and they do just fine and that I will just have to trust my two oldest, which I do.

My question to you all is, what suggestions can you make based on your past experiences about how I can prepare for emergencies, sick kids, etc.

Thank you so much for helping me and reading this long post.

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats!!!! I was in before/after school daycare as a kid when my mom was working her but off! I never hated her for it and enjoyed the time playing with other kids. Once my mom was done with school and was able to afford a life, I totaly understood why she wasn't always around!

Good luck!

cell phone!!!!!!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS ALANA!!!! That' wonderful!!!! I wish I could give you some advice but I plan on putting my dd's in afterschool care also....they'll be there for about an hour after they are dismissed from school. So don't worry.....you're going to school will benefit them in the end also.

Congrats Alana. I have to put my kids in after school care when I am accepted in the nursing college. Your children will be fine, just make sure that they can contact you in case of emergency.

congratulations!

First of all, congratulations. One suggestion I have is to get a pager. Many hospitals and/or schools are not permitting you to have a cell phone turned on but you could have a pager and put it on vibrate. That's what I do - I have a 6-1/2 year old son and my mom was diagnosed with Stage IIIB ovarian cancer in May, 2002. So . . . having a pager has helped put my mind at ease. Hope this helps!!!!
