I GOT A JOB after 18 months of trying.......

Published

I received an official offer today from a Pediatric clinic that I interviewed with. I will be working M-F 8-5 with a set day off weekly. Also one weekend a month 8am-12noon. I am ECSTATIC but also nervous!

I have been out of work for 18 months due to have 3 major surgeries. I needed that time to focus on getting myself well and now I am wanting to get back out there and bed the BEST I can be. I have been trying so hard to get a job and when they called, I cried tears of joy

Before this I worked for 9 months at the health department as a Public health nurse. I did some Peds and LOVED it! Also completed a pediatric internship in school. I am basically still a new grad since my first job was the health department.

Any advice for this nurse who is starting "again"? I have been out of work for so long that I feel "rusty." What can I do to prepare? This clinic only does fingersticks and if they need lab draws, they are sent out, so I wont really have to worry with venipuncture.. I know learning the computers and paperwork will take time.

I want to be successful and do my very best so any advice would be wonderful. I am in tears as I type....

I know there are MANY people on here in my boat, been waiting over a year, gone to many interviews with no luck and feel hopeless. All I can say is HANG IN THERE...IT WILL HAPPEN FOR YOU!!!

Congratulations!!:coollook:

Might review your assessment skills for peds? or brush up on the questions moms and dads ask about vaccinations and common childhood diseases.

Bone up on vaccinations for kids.....

I also ordered the pocket cards from the cdc for pediatric vaccine schedules :)

Learn pediatric vital sign norms and look over growth curves. And yes, definitely vaccines.

Yalls advice is very helpful....keep it coming :)

I wish those feelings of " I am going to look stupid" would go away. I have been out of practice for 18 months...ugh I know I won't learn everything again within the first week.. I have been a victim of nurse "bullying"....I need more confidence.

They never go away. LOL! you will do fine. Fake confidence around the kiddos and parents or they will eat you for dinner. Be open to learning all you can from the experienced staff. It will really be ok and after about 3 months you will not have to fake it any longer.

Thank you for the advice :)
