I will be working reg part time, nights 2300-0700.
It's a 4 week master schedule.
I need to do "part of a weekend" once a month--so either fri/ sat or sat/ sun.
I want around 10-13 shifts over 4 weeks.
I have thought this over endlessly and cant decide.
I DO want my days to be the same each week.
My kids are 8 and 6 and in school full time, hubby works m-f days.
HELP me choose-would you want your nights in a row or not??
I feel so lucky to have this choice. BTW, the job is pretty easy/ low stress.
I could do M, T, W ----S, S, M---M, T, W---M, T, W
OR
M, W, --- S, S, M-- M, W--- M, W or something similar
anything else

Just a thought--
If you have the ability of setting your days, why not put yourself into blocks, with as many days in a row as possible so you have long blocks of days off.
You have the luxury of working part time-great. I did it too when I was in my first marriage and my oldest kids were young. If I had the ability to set my days, I would have blocked 2 weeks on and 2 off.
Working nights is a hard adjustment, even harder when you are working part time, I think. If I had had the choices you appear to have with your schedule, I would work like a full timer for a week and a half, then have all those days off.
Like I said it's just a thought. If you block your days on and off, it is easier to get back in to the "normal" life of your home if you have a lot of days off in a row....

The unit I work on is self-scheduling as well. Those nurses that are in their first year as a new grad (soon to me!), they get to "self-schedule" but can be moved around to accomodate those days short staffed.
The majority of the nurses get to pick what days/nights they want to work (they do have certain requirements as to what type of schedule they can pick) but most of them do 3 days in a row. By the 3rd day, they are usually very tired.. but then they have 4 days off! :)
If I were in your position, I would do 3 days in a row (but I don't have a family... so can't relate to your situation).

If it were me I would block all my days together one week, then be off a group of days. Maybe like a Th,F,S,S,M,Tu thing one weekend....then off for a weekend, then back to the 6 day thing, etc.....
I don't know if that would work for you because of the hours you need each week but I'm all about working all my days in a row to max my time off in between and I work nights too.
If not I would think the M, T, W ----S, S, M---M, T, W---M, T, W would be nice too. I just like a lot of days off in a row at once.
Actually, the schedule I'm striving for is our weekend option which is Th,F,S,S every other week, 48 hours per pay period and they way our facility pays - they pay you an additional 24 hours a pay period to make you full time with full time benefits. That's my dream schedule.....maybe someday......
Well, I do work straight nights so it's not that perfect after all. Nobody else wants the nights-except me.

A good thought in theory but for me, 3 nights in a row is my maximum.
