i did it. i finally wrote to oprah on her website for show ideas. i think it will take someone like her to shed light on this so-called nursing shortage issue. if as a nurse you were laid off from work or you are a new grad having a hard time finding work, i recommend that you do the same so that they see that this is a national problem. i also mentioned the whole foreign nursing issue too. speak your mind! here's the link:
I don't think Oprah will address this. She'll just as soon cut you a tax write off friendly check for a few thousand dollars b4 she dedicates one show to this. Oprah knows nothing about nursing or being unemployed. I don't think she cares really. It's our problem not hers.

While I don't necessarily understand why Oprah has so much influence over our culture, the fact is she does, and tapping into that might not be the worst idea on the planet.
Count me in---I proposed a show called "Nurses: Here To Save Your Butt, Not Kiss It". It would be a nice platform to educate the public on what we actually do all day and dispel those stupid angel-in-white/handmaiden/sex kitten/serial killer images. The general population hasn't got a clue that nurses are most often the ones standing between them and disaster when their doctor makes a mistake in their treatment, and the ones who battle their insurance carriers to obtain a badly-needed drug or piece of medical equipment. Oprah's show could open up that door...........I'm sure it'll probably never happen, but there's certainly no harm in asking.

UPDATE: I just got an e-mail from Nursing2009, nursing journal (I had e-mailed them venting the day I wrote to Oprah). They want to print my quotes in the November issue!
Also, they are on Facebook and have questions for New Graduates that are having difficulties finding jobs. You may want to go on the site and participate in this so that they have a clear view of what we New Grads are going thru right now.
