I feel stupid

Published

I'm learning anatomy and physiology I right now about the nucelous and plasma membrane and stuff and i cant help but feel that i should already know this. i had a little moment like "look how old you are" in relation to what i was doing and now im like :uhoh3:

You shouldn't feel stupid! This is why you are going to school and learning things. And I don't know how old you are but I will use myself as an example. I am 31. I have a great career that I make good money at but decided I wanted something more challenging that would let me use my brain a bit. I am older than some people in my prereq's but there is nothing wrong with that! And there is plenty of stuff that I vaguely remember learning years ago and get frustrated about, then I remember what I am aiming for, focus, and succeed. You can't let yourself get dragged down about it. You will be great.

i will be 49 in a few months.....i feel like that quite abit.....especially when i ask my 13 yr old son what this mean regarding anything science...:lol2:.......i love learning tho!!

Take a deep breath and study your little heart out! It will all continue to make more and more sense! I'm about to be taking A&P I as well, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't stressed out about it! It's a lot to take in, for anyone! I'm not by any means asking you to go out and spend money on these things, but if you're able, and do well with supplemental learning, it may save your life (I know it will save mine!) I took Anatomy in high school. I remember some things, but most things, I'm really fuzzy on. I was at Books-A-Million looking for the A&P for Dummies book and workbook, and I ran across Kaplan Medical's Anatomy Flashcards. I am a flash card fanatic! That's how I learn nearly 80% of my material. They were $25, but I think the set was completely worth it. I've been skimming through the cards and remembering some things from high school. They also break the cards into System sections. It's really going to be my life saver! If you don't like spending money on those type of things, or can't, or maybe you're more of a hands-on learner - try to sketch out the parts yourself and label them! That's another great way! There are also some Anatomy coloring books you can buy, if you'd like. I see a lot of people taking about them on here! I'm just waiting to run across a bargain, because...the ones I saw were relatively pricey! A little too big of a price tag for me right now. :D Good luck! I think you'll do great!

Im not a nursing student yet, and im actually kind of nervous of becoming one now from reading these post...lol :-/ Im studying to take the HESI exam now, and this Math section seems a bit over whelming, Ive taken college classes before and basic/college math, but I guess its been a while, and I have to refresh my memory so i can pass this test to get in the VN program. Since you are a nursing student already, do you think HESI test is really difficult to pass? I hear people having to take it like 2 and 3 times :-/

To help refresh your math skills check out Khanacademy.com

It's awesome. There are TONS of videos and even excerises for math. I used it to help refresh my math for the compass placement test and I did very well! All thanks to that site. Seriously you have to check it out.

The math videos start out with very basic math.(I actually think there are 2 + 2 exercises.) And they go all the way through algebra, calculus, even linear algebra.(not to be confused with regular algebra)

Check it out and see what you think.

*full disclosure- I actually heard about this site from someone else on allnurses. This site rocks!

Don't feel stupid. I just took A&P I in the Spring and I didn't know any of that stuff either. I remember learning "something" about some of it waaaay back in elementary school. But I was pretty much clueless going into it. I was able to pick it up pretty quickly. I used a lot of flashcards and http://www.myaandp.com.

Thanks for the replies. They really eased my mind. How long do you guys usually study for? I try to aim for 3 hours but I feel like I should be doing more. I never studied through high school and am just now starting to take it seriously. Note cards seem like a great idea but I don't have any money to spare. :crying2:

The fact English is my second language can be challenging when trying to pronounce the words, but that's no excuse!
