I feel like a new nurse again! HELP!

Published

Hi there everyone I have been a nurse for about four years now, the first 2 were spent in the icu at the hospital and the past two in home health care. Recently I have decided to go back to school to further my education and working 5 days a week isn't the best schedule for this, so i've decided to go back to the hospital. I do believe that this is the best decision for the long run but I am so nervous because I didn't realize how much information I had forgotten. Right now I'm very frustrated and feel like I won't be able to do it. Has anyone else been in this situation and if so do you have any advice? Please help!

Yes, I'm sure a lot of us have. I worked in an ortho office and surgery for 20 years and then quit and went into Home Health. I felt totally stupid!Hadn't started or even RUN an IV in all of those years! Just keep your chin up - it's a temporary lapse. I've heard it's like riding a bike, although I've never been able to ride one! You will remember what you think you have forgotten - you're probably just nervous right now. Make time to read up on procedures and meds you feel uncomfortable with so when you get to work you will know what you're doing.

Good luck at work and with your classes!
