I feel like giving up!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

This week is my finals and I just took my A and P final.. I was sitting at a 90% before the test and now i'm feeling like I didn't pull an A. I worked so hard at this class and I so upset about this! I HAVE never worked so hard in school and i'm feeling that i'm not cut out for this:( I'm at a 3.6 and I know I need to be in the 3.8 range to be competitive:/ SCHOOOL IS KILLLING ME

Good luck to you. Try applying to different nursing programs to widen your chances of getting into one. Hope everything works out for the best. :flwrhrts:

I haven't taken A&P yet, next semester, but I know a lot of people who have and every one of them had a hard time. I know GPA holds a lot of weight but you have two choices here: dwell on something you can't change or focus on things you can. What else do they look at that you can work on to make you the best candidate possible? For example, my college gives points for work experience so I could get a part-time job.

Just because you didn't get an A in A&P doesn't mean you are not cut out for this. I've known people working in health care who aren't so great in school but excel hands-on at work. Grades are just one component. You might be finding that in the process of becoming a nurse people are weeded out. I believe its not the grades weeding them out but the mentality behind it that is.

The dean of my nursing program decided to start using a lottery system for the nursing program at my school for the first time this year. At first I thought it was absurd! I worked so hard to keep a 3.98, and now they are going to do a lottery system?! I asked her why this was one day. She said, "A 4.0 doesn't make a good nurse. It is much more than that.." That really got me thinking...

So, basically, don't beat yourself up. Apply to all the schools you can. Including those lottery programs. I figured I had no chance once it was changed to lottery, but I was wrong and have been accepted to this fall's program. Good Luck!

yes, many of the students who fail out of nursing programs were 3.8's and 4.0 before the nursing program. My bff being one of them. She was at 3.8 when she went into the program and ended up failing out:(

Thanks everyone...I feel a bit better now:) I just want this so bad... I'm going to def look into to lottery programs as well:)

Don't you worry!! A lady I met while applying to NS had all "Cs" in the prereqs...and she was accepted before I was. Just apply!! You never know.

don't give up, it is such a long road. i have been working on my pre-reqs for almost 3 years while working 24 hour shifts on an ambulance with two kids. i was super discouraged after getting rejected 3 times because my gpa wasn't perfect (3.3). i told my husband that this was my last shot because i was done with all my pre-reqs and was considering a different field, but i finally got my letter yesterday and start in august. i may not have done perfect in my pre-nursing classes but i know i will be a good nurse. you can do it just hang in there and don't give up.

You're overreacting. Just relax; you'll still get into ns.

I cannot tell you how many times I felt this same way when I was in A&P. Just breathe and know that everything happens and works out for a reason. If you make one B, it is okay..just let that be your only B you make. It is extremely hard to get into nursing school but one B will not make you not get in anywhere. Just study even harder for the next test and you will pull through! But do not stress yourself out you will be fine!!
