I failed the NCLEX-RN

Nursing Students NCLEX

Hi to everyone!

I am new here at allnurses and the reason I joined is to learn, and be a part of the community. Reading inspiring stories and topics makes me want to work harder on my goals.

Recently I took the NCLEX test, but failed. I felt really depressed about it but my sister told me to not stop there and retake the test.

I hope some of you can read this and give me a few tips to pass the NCLEX on my 2nd attempt.

God bless you.

Hi,

Oh, I am so sorry! Don't be down, you can do it the second time. I find that most people pass it the second time! My advice to you is to figure out how many hours per week you can devote to studying and stick to it. Have a consistent schedule. My capacity level was only 2-4 hours per day. So, know yourself.

My school provided us with ATI which was very helpful for content. Saunders and Hurst were also good for content. If you need help with content, I would highly suggest those two. However, don't spend too much time on content because at the end of the day, you need to understand how to take the exam. I found Kaplan to be the most helpful in terms of providing NCLEX-style questions. I also followed Tootrn on Instagram - I did her practice questions whenever I had free time, before bed, etc... KEEP DOING NCLEX-STYLE QUESTIONS! This is so important because you can almost always get rid of 2 choices and use your judgment and knowledge on the other 2 choices. Remember safety and ABCs!!

You can do this :)

Thank you for the encouragement and the positive comment! I am currently making a study plan right now. :)and also noting the tips posted here. I have read Saunders 6th edition for the content, and im planning on browsing it again. Especially the areas where I know is difficult for me. I'm currently looking for a good book or website where I can practice answering questions. If you know a few websites that are helpful, I would really appreciate it. God bless you!!

Hi there~

I failed twice and just recently passed on my 3rd try. I have been out of school for over a year, had a baby, just got back to studying a few months ago. So, if I can do it, then you can definitely do it!! So don't be discouraged. I took Kaplan the first time around. They're good with teaching you how to prioritize which answers to choose and gave a lot of questions you can do which were great, however, none of that matters if you're not on point with your content. That was my biggest issue; Content. If you don't know the material, then the strategies won't help. Since I didn't have a whole lot of time on my hands with a newborn, I ended up watching a bunch of YOUTUBE videos to help with content. I know some people will say it's not helpful but I found it to be really helpful. My recommendation would be the videos from Michael Linares. He's pretty silly and makes funny references to different things, which for me only helped in remembering. I feel like the books for content that a lot of the review companies have are great but super dense and kind of hard to sit through reading. So if you're anything like me then I would suggest that as an alternative to just doing questions. Hope that helps and good luck~!

Wow, congratulations! are you a foreign nurse too?

I guess that was my issue too. I took a review class at Kaplan, and my scores were ok, I've learned the strategy to select the correct answer. when i took the test, i stopped at 265!! panic hit me when i reached 200 and the computer hasn't shut down yet. :/ You're right, even if I knew the strategies, if i don't know anything about the topic then it's difficult to choose the right answer. so i guess this time i'll be focusing on content, esp the topics i'm weak at. Thank you for the tip, I've already looked up Linares on youtube :)

I recommend Uworld. I used Kaplan my first attempt at NCLEX and it didn't help me one bit.

I am also a international nurse. And i am scared to death! I am taking Nclex on April

I used Uworld. Highly recommend it, the questions are challenging. I had a low average, I think it was 68%… I did the whole question bank and redid the questions I got wrong. Passed in 75 questions :)

First - don't you give up!

i can tel you this- don't study like a Md! Looking not just for mediation, labs and Pathological. Think about the nurse aspects- food, activists, what the patient may say at giving situation.( if he will call to report x what you will do)we all study how V tach look like but really you should study a bigger picture- the patient. I think it is easy to study the facts , but we don't pay attention to the discussion that really matters to the patient. I have to say that most of the practice questions helps.

And never give up!
