I will be applying to Accelerated BSN programs in January, but the programs that I have been looking at so far say that I need to take 8-9 prerequisite courses in order to apply, that's A LOT of school to cram into a summer and the fall semester. Which Accelerated BSN Programs have the least amount of prerequisite courses to complete before applying?
It's true, some courses really are jumping through hoops. I mean, honestly, did I really need to learn about all the classes of invertebrates in Bio?
Still, I'm curious why you want to buzz past all your prereqs. Wanting to minimize student loans? Wanting to get right into the "real" nursing courses?
Well, it's a direct-entry masters, but Yale has no pre-reqs at all. Johns Hopkins BSN has 6.
I would recommend you to take the strongest pre-reqs you can though, don't try to just get it out of the way and do something you can get an easy A in or whatever - these classes are important both as a base and in and of themselves - the more you know, and I mean really know and understand and can apply, the better off you will be in your future nursing classes and your future career. It's not about getting it through it all as fast as possible so you can be a nurse, or at least, I hope not, because what's a nurse or any other profession w/o the understanding and knowledge to back it up? Take 9 pre-reqs. Or 20. Be the smartest, most knowledgeable nurse you can be, and don't count 100% on nursing school to get you there.
Good luck! My only other piece of advice is when you do take the pre-reqs like chem and that, please try your best to love it for what it is, if you go in dreading it everyday and treating it as just something to get through you will be unhappy and it will be way harder then it needs to be.
The ADN program to which I applied has two pre-reqs. (A&P I and chemistry) and I believe 8 co-reqs. Even though it is possible depending on the strength of the applicant pool to gain admittance with only the two courses completed, it is highly recommended that anyone in the program complete all 10 courses prior to starting the nursing program to make it easier to focus on the core nursing classes.
At least you don't have to retake classes because they "expired" :)
I just get the impression that you're just TIRED of school right now and need to take a break (which is understandable!)

I had a BA when I went to nursing school, and I still had to take 8 prereqs. I spread it out over 3 semesters, with 1 online class and 2 hybrid classes (on-line lecture, on-site labs).
