Is there any program in NY that allows you to go from being an Rn AAS straight for masters?Or must you get a bachelors first?

If I go for my MS, does that make me a nurse practionioner once im finished??

Do you have to have an MS to be a NP? can you be a NP with a bachelors?

Hi - and welcome. I'll try to answer your questions:

There are some ADN to MSN programs out there - but you do have to look for them.

Just as there are many different bachelors degrees, so there are different masters degrees. An MSN (Masters in the Science of Nursing) have many different concentrations. For instance, I have an MSN with a concentration of management and leadership which is a non-clinical degree. Then...I am currently doing a post-MSN certificate for an adult health clinical nurse specialist which is a clinical degree.

Nowadays, in order to be a nurse practitioner or other advanced practice nurse, you must have at least a masters degree. Many years ago (unsure exactly how many), NPs who had bachelors degrees were "grandfathered in" to the NP title.

Hope this helps. In the end, it is up to you to find the program that meets your needs. Good luck...there are many, many programs out there.

If you are open to relocating, these exist all over the country. The University that I attend also offers one... I will post the link here

Rutgers University (www.rutgers.edu) offers R.N. to BS/MS. I don't know where in NY you are but Rutgers has campuses in Newark which is very close to NYC.

Good luck!
