I AM CONFUSED

Published

So I'm planning on becoming a nurse and study at SF State, San Jose State, or Cal East Bay

I don't get the program.

So you take your prereqs right? and then what? do you have to apply to the pre nursing program after you finish your prereqs or are you automatically in and all you have to worry about is getting in to the nursing major?

and i'm just wondering... is pre nursing your first and second years of college and the nursing major the third and fourth years?

i'm really sorry if this post is too long and i sound like a complete dum dum.. it's just that i'm really confused.

Hi futurenurse408,

thanks for your response. another question you may be able to help me with: i attend foothill community college (maybe you've heard of it since you seem local), and i'm wondering if you know the minimum GPA requirement for pre-nursing as a transfer student? it seems you got in directly out of high school, congrats : )

Blacksheep 45,

So sorry for the late response. If you're a transfer student, most likely, you would have to apply to the nursing school directly. It is only required you be under 'pre-nursing' if you are coming to SJSU straight from high school. If you're a transfer student, you would have to complete your pre-reqs at your current school (Foothill) then apply to SJSU, then to the nursing school. So you don't have to be under 'pre-nursing', just make sure all your classes are completed, you've taken the WST, TEAS, then apply to nursing school. You can apply to the university before applying to nursing then finish WST, TEAS before applying. That'd probably be the best decision since when you do the app for nursing it is required that you are an SJSU student first, even if you are a transfer. In other words, you can't apply directly to the School of Nursing from Foothill. You have to apply to SJSU as a pre-nursing as a transfer (and if your GPA is decent, you shouldn't have a problem). Then you would apply to the major once you are accepted.
