So, what happens next? Any advice? What should I brush up on? What books should I read now, while waiting for the program to begin? Uniforms/equipment requirements? Medical/insurance requirement? Which hospitals/facility offer clinicials? Anything you know now, that you wish you knew before you started the program? I realize that there will be an orientation, but any advice from the student's perspective would be invaluable. Thank you in advance for your time.
Happy New Year to you too and everyone else on here! 17 more days till we start! I was just wondering, is anyone purchasing the "optional" books for the first semester of Nursing or just the required textbooks? I'm debating as to whether or not I should buy them. Please let me know. Thanks!
My motto is, "it's better to have and don't need than to need and don't have", that being said, I bought it all. My New Year gift to everyone (or at least to those who do not know), is the introduction of NurseNacole, you can find her on Facebook or Youtube...she is a gemstone of knowledge and encouragement. Check her out, you will be glad you did.
Just a note, I have received several friend requests; however, I prefer the old fashion way of getting to know people in person. Besides, this is all new to me, therefore I don't want to overload myself with the responsibility of being the 'go to' person. I just was to start the program with 'a clean, in the moment slate'.
to those of you who are thinking about giving up.
after three years of waiting and denied acceptance, my friend was about to give up on her dream of becoming a nurse. her big break came after she learned about marygrove/oakland university nursing program. her credits from wcccd transferred and next week she will begin working toward her bachelor in health and science degree from marygrove college, after which she will be accepted into oakland university's 1-year nursing program and upon completion she will have two degrees: health and science bachelor's from marygrove and a nursing bsn from oakland university. she also received a $6000 per semester scholarship.
she went from being discouraged and about to quit, to being back on track and way ahead of her game. i am both happy for and proud of her for not giving up.

don't give up. often the wait leads to bigger and better, if only you don't give up.

By the way in case anyone is interested, I purchased all of my books including the ones for the second 7.5 weeks for a little bit over $200 of Amazon.com. It was nearly 50% cheaper than what I would've paid had I purchased them from the Wcccd bookstore.
