Any opinions??? My hair has been falling out in clumps, my muscles ache and I am tired all the time. My r side neck is sore, it feels like I slept on it wrong and when I turn my head It feels like there is a ball in there. I had a T4= normal, a TSH elevated @ 5.50 and an u/s that was unremarkable. They want to wait 6 weeks and have labs drawn again.
Does this sound like hypothyroidism?
Could it be something else?
What is the treatment for HT?
Any other tests I should have?
6 weeks wait, is that normal?
Thanks for you input!!

I am the same way...I feel like if I am going to be in a doctors office once a week, getting my blood drawn, I would like to know what is going on.
My last 2 visits, my doc sort of acted like I was wasting her time. Why not just take the Synthroid and hush.
I wish it worked. I know my labs are abnormal, etc..maybe the endocrinologist will help!
I started the synthroid at 25mcg, the TSH went down to 8.0, Im now on 50mcg and a few weeks ago, it was 5.8. I started feeling better right away - you could see the difference in my skin. Doctors accept different values as normal - some like 0.3-3.0, some go up to 5.0 i think.
Hang in there - Sometimes it takes a while to get it all adjusted. My mom had thyroid surgery when I was a kid, so there is a family tendency there. THe effects of synthroid also cause DMII to kick in on me - yep family history of that too, but synthroid can cause resistence to your bodies insulin and production. I have lost about 20 pounds so far from the ADA diet, and im being very compliant with what I eat - After seeing all the complications that non-compliant people have, I dont want to be sick. I would like to lose about another 20 pounds and then i will be at about my weight before having 5 babies!! So far the DMII is controlled with just diet and exercise.
Best wishes and prayers to good health!!
Currently I'm not taking any meds for my hypo. I don't know why I had such a strange reaction to Synthroid...I wish I didn't.
I am going to have my TSH levels re-drawn next week. We'll see. For the last 2 months, my TSH levels kept rising and rising. They went from .01 to 30. Right now, I feel ok w/out the Synthroid. Lately, I have been having some near fainting spells, but I am reluctant to talk to my doc about it. I'm not very comfortable with her lately. I had gestational diabetes with pregnancy...but no other problems ever.
She said after next week, depending on my TSH levels, she may refer me to an endo. I tried to make an appt. myself, but I had to be referred.
I just started my 1st semester of nursing school yesterday! Since I'm new in school, I really don't have any "endocrinology" wisdom to draw from!
I'm so glad some of you do!

I know that feeling, I can't get any info out of my DR's office they are very vague. I guess they have to be until they know for sure what is going on. I am just the type of person who likes to know ins and outs. Even possibilities of any disorder I may or may not have.
