Hutchinson community college lpn to RN hybrid

I just started this program this spring semester. As far as the clinicals this semester they weren't quite what the instructors had hoped for from the hospitals, but they are flexible. They are offered just about every weekend from Feb through the first part of Apr. You have to do 8 days. You'll also have to plan to be there for a full week before the program starts for orientation and skills.

Some people are coming into town for two long weekends in a row to get their clinicals done in one trip, it just didn't work out for me to be able to do that. Our class has people from 9 states and Canada. So far I really like it. The instructors are great and are on top of any issues that might arise.

You will take NCLEX for whatever state you live in, not just for Kansas.

I’ve been looking into this school as it seems very appealing flexibility wise. What is your GPA like, if you don’t mind me asking? Have you taken the Kaplan exam yet? I’m trying to figure out the best way to study for it. I still have to take patho and microbiology before the deadline as well.

yes the nclex was that made me nervous, I currently live in Louisiana we are a compact state but I hear other programs such as INdiana state will not even transfer.

Go for it. They told us in orientation that they are accepted by all 50 states' boards of nursing. There are a few that require more clinical hours than others and they are working with those individuals to get those accomplished.

I have a 3.6 GPA, but it's only based on your GPA from the prerequisites needed for the course, not total. They use a points system for acceptance into the program.

Yes I took the Kaplan. The Kaplan study guide is only good for the reading comprehension part, don't study anything else out of it, it's not on the test. I actually found some online study material that was much more helpful for the science and math. That Kaplan book is a waste of money.

Thanks for letting me know the Kaplan book is garbage, that’ll save me some money. I’m going to take Microbiology through EduKan/Pratt Community College during the spring 5 session that starts on March 2nd. It’s an 8 week class but I’ve heard good things about it. I’m probably going to take Patho through Hutchinson since they offer it online as well.

@Cuttykupcake I am looking at taking Micro through Edukan/Pratt. I'm curious how the experience was for you and if you'd recommend your professor?

I took Micro through Edukan/Pratt too. It was super convenient class. I don't remember specifically who my professor was, but they were quick to respond whenever I had a question. I would highly recommend taking Micro this way. Just FYI there was a lab component where you would have to culture, grown and identify bacteria virtually, then write a paper about it. Sounds difficult, but it really wasn't.

I just finished my Micro class and I definitely recommend taking it here as opposed to waiting to get into a local campus-based class, especially if you work full time and have other commitments. My teacher was nice, although he took a while to get things graded, which isn’t a big deal to me. Weekly discussion post with a reply to 2 students, weekly quiz, weekly virtual labs that were interesting and interactive, and some of the labs have you fill out a paper with questions. Nothing too heavy. There was a final project due at the end of class which was a paper where you pick 6 different diseases from six chapters in the book to write about. It wasn’t bad. I hate writing so if I can do it, anyone can.

Do they allow clinical's to be done in your state? I'm in NY....
