I actually feel helpless watching the situation in New Orleans with respects to the nursing profession. I actually want to head down there as an RN and help out. The only problem is, I have been working as an RN for only 1 month now. Does anyone else have similar feelings of wanting to head down there to help out?

I just accepted a position in a hospital. I don't think they will let me wait to start orientation. I have tried to call the assistance hotline several times to offer however, if I ever get through I will see if I can help in any way. I'd love to donate money, if I had any.

I live about 30 miles south of Houston, TX where they are in DESPERATE need of RN's, LPNs, LVNs, EMTs etc so of course we all want to give what we can. Though I am a nurse, I am volunteering time to just FOLD the donations, hand them out, talk to the evacuees/refugees so forth! It is very heavy on my heart those still stranded in N.O. and especially in the hospitals! Prayers to them all!

I'm a 4th year nursing student from Canada, I 'm sure there is something I can do. I would like to volunteer my time if I can work it out, what can I do? Where do I find out if there is something I can do!

I just got done my 8 week orientation and passed boards that I took on July 9th. I really wish I could volunteer my time to go down there but I don't know if I would have my job when I came back... this company that owns the hospital is just all about money.

Adam-
I feel the same. Just got my license in June and really would like to go and help as an RN but just don't feel qualified even though I have been working on my own now for almost 1 1/2 mos I don't know what to do other than to send money and pray for these folks. Watched an interview on Fox just a minute ago and Macy Gray (Grey) had gone to the Astrodome and she made a really great statement about volunteering just to offer the "human touch" to the ones affected by this horrific event. I live close to Dallas so I am going to try to recruit a couple of nurse friends Mon and Tues to go to one of the evacuee shelters to do whatever they need.
http://www.USFreedomCorps.com is a link that tells you different information of where and how to volunteer in your area. Maybe we could all do something like that to feel like we are helping some of these people.

Maybe you can round up some students and donate blood at the Red Cross, just a thought. That's what I'm going to do with some of my co-workers.
