humanitarian mission and nursing

Nurses General Nursing

can anyone tell me different non-profit organizations that provide medical humanitarian missions that RN's can participate in?

Specializes in ER, progressive care.

Hospitals can offer mission trips for RN's/hospital staff. They are not all necessarily religious-based hospitals, either. A friend of mine works for a non-religious-based hospital (also non-profit) and went on a mission trip last year to Honduras.

Specializes in Med/Surg/Onc, LTAC.

I've seen my hospital send nurses to africa and haiti many times, I'm not sure how other hospitals may do that. But I would see red cross or doctors without borders (I would assume they need us nurses too! :) )

Check Haitian orphanages :) Also, Operation Smile (volunteers who fix kids' cleft lips and palates in SE Asia, and Central/South America- probably other places).... I saw an infomercial about them (fund raising) and it was amazing - all volunteer MDs and nurses- and those kids were just precious :)

Nurses without borders, Medical Ministries International (religious base, but great to work with), I believe you can work with Doctors Without Borders, just start googling you will find a ton of stuff! Good luck!

thank you for your responses!!!
