Human Growth and Development

Published

I'm taking this as an 8 week course over the summer with A&P2, anyone know what this class is about? What it's like? Seems like it'd be an easy one.

Nursing classes will always refer back to the various theories of development, over and over. Practically every clinical assessment and care plan I did in N II and N III asked me to determine what stage of development in Erikson's, Freud's, Piaget's, what stage of Maslow's Hierarchy. You use these growth and development theories to help plan patient care. A nurse always has to be able to justify actions by pointing to a source that says "you do this." You can't just make up something because you thought it was a good idea, in other words. You have to cite a basis for your decisions.

I also took this class online, and yes it talks about developmental stages from birth to death, it was ok, lots of reading also, papers, but you should be fine...Good Luck

Even though I dropped Human Growth and Development (took it as an online course, which did not work to my benefit), I remember that we referenced heavily on the same concepts learned in General Psychology. We talked about the different theories of any given development stage, in particular.

We also had this project where we took care of this virtual baby in a simulated environment. We named the kid, went through several months and years of the baby's lifespan, so on and so fourth.

To me, I believe the course is easy. Taking it as an online class, however, not so much. (Then again, the notes given by my instructor were just too abstract for my liking).

Best of luck with this and Human Anatomy & Physiology II!
