Human Growth and Development CLEP vs. Lifespan ...

Nursing Students Online Learning

Published

I came across a reference that the CLEP for Human Growth and Development is an easier path than the Lifespan examination. Can anyone recommend any study guides for this CLEP? I've come across REA and Passyourclass so far ... if anyone has any opinions on these or others, I would love to hear them.

Thanks!

I thought the CLEP was easy, but I had a pretty firm grasp on the material to begin with. I did the CLEP instead of the EC course to save money -- $80 vs. $200-whatever? No contest. But one piece of advice: don't short-change yourself on learning the subject matter by going the cram-for-CLEP route -- you'll find that you need to know the lifespan developmental material for the nursing courses as well as for the NCLEX-RN. Not to say you're the type to cram material and then forget it, but I thought I'd just throw it out there.

Good luck!! :)

I Clepped this with http://www.instantcert.com and the REA book. Thanks to Lunah for giving us the headsup on this exam and a sure 3 credits!

Thank you and understood! What other courses can be CLEP'd?

And is there a difference between instacert.com and instantcert.com ?

And when you suggest petersons and intacert, is that an 'and' or an 'or' ? ie: should I use both, or is either one just fine? :)

They are the same thing -- no difference.

The only things I CLEPed were Human Growth & Development and Introductory Sociology, so I know Excelsior accepts those. :)

I used both. I over-prepare for everything. :D That's just how I roll!

Thanks! I think I'm stuck with a new curriculum so I need to weight this out. I might not have a choice in the matter.

I went to my local public library and the reference librarian help me find this VHS/DVD series from the Teaching Company http://www.library-teach12.com/teach12.asp. They have numerous subjects from sciences, english, history, and business. Your local library may have some of these or may be able to borrow them from another library for you. Check with your reference librarian.

You can download some of the programs in audio format to your computer, iPod or mp3 player. These are actually university/college level instructors giving their lectures that they would give in class. These lectures explain processes and theories.

I used the VHS/DVD format of this series from my local library for my DANTES Ethics (they have numerous on titles on the different theories) and for the CLEP Human Growth and Development (Lifespan). I passed both exams. Now I am using the A & P for A & P 2 and Algebra.

If your reference librarian helps you they may be listed under the title "The Great Courses".

Hope this helps.

Did you use the Peterson's General Guide, or did you just go with their (3) practice tests? I didn't find anything specific to Human Grown other than the practice exams?

Thank you! I just checked out their site but only found a match for 'Theories of Human Development' ... is that what you used for the Lifespan/Human Growth CLEP?

Yes, that is what I used along with the REA book to pass the CLEP. In the "Theories of Human Development", the instructor explains the theories so that you can understand them better. That helped me so much.

Hopefully, your local library has them or can borrow them for you from another library. Ask your reference librarian.
