HRT (testosterone cream)

Published

I started taking a compounded prescription testosterone cream yesterday due to test results showing that my testosterone level was low. I've had so many issues since having kids. A few being fatigue, low libido, anxiety, etc and they think that this may be all that I need to get me backon track.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried this or know much about it.

Here are the directions:

Side Effects:

Side Effects are unusual at low doses but include: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, agitation, depression, acne, change in libido, hirsutism (excess hair), clitoral enlargement (lovely  ), voice changes, electrolyte retention, change in coagulation time. If you are using a formulation that is applied to the skin you may experience itching, discomfort, or irritation. These effects may go away during treatment.

Application sites:

Apply to the wrist, arms, upperchest and behind the knees are all fine sites. For the fastest libido response, the cream can be applied directly to the privy parts. Testosterone levels peak 4 hours after each dose.

There's a bunch more, but that was the stuff that freaked me out and cracked me up. I can't wait to try it! I have to use it daily. I start out with just .01ml. Then I can start increasing it after 10 days, but can't exceed .05ml.

I'm mainly wanting to know how long it takes to see results and also if one application spot is better than another.

HI, I always try to remember that reported side effects are usually ALL the ever reported effects - it does not mean you will get them all, or any for that matter. I web site I find useful that is UK medicine based is http://www.bnf.org.uk I don't know if there is a USA equivalent, but it is really useful. Another is http://www.medicinescomplete.com/mc/

Sadly the names of drugs in the UK and USA are different, but if you know the basic ingredients you can often trace the name from one country to another.

Hope these sites help.

I use HRT in patch format - and I am a changed woman because of them - my kids and hubby will testify to that too! :chuckle

Really? So it's helped you? I sure hope it does me. I used to have so much energy and "drive". Now, I could sleep all day and could easily become a nun... :rotfl:

I've been off and on antidepressants for years. During my teen years, I NEEDED to be on them. I had "issues". But I am not an unhappy person. People tell me that I light up a room and that I am lots of fun. I'm really a very happy person, so I don't think I need to be on antidepressants. I finally went to one of the midwives at my gynocologist office and she's been awesome at trying to figure out how to help me. She sent me to an endocronologist and it was finally discovered that I have a very low testosterone level. So, we're starting here with the cream. I was reading some of the info she gave me and it said in one part that low testosterone can cause diabetes. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia last year, so that makes me wonder if the low testosterone level has anything to do with that. It's not serious. My blood sugar doesn't drop low often at all. Maybe once every few weeks. That's about it.

I just started it yesterday, so I'm sure it will take a while before I notice anything (if I notice anything at all). How long until you noticed a difference with your patch? Is your HRT for post menopausal? I'm only 28, so mine isn't due to that.

I started on this for zippo libido after a total hyst. It controls my moods a bit, flashes, sleeping better, less night sweats but nothing for libido.

However, I most definately have a deeper voice and way to much new facial hair/that part I hate.

What dosage are you on? I only use 1ml. Is yours natural compounded or synthetic?

My hormone is a different one - I had a total hysterectomy 2 years ago (aged 42) and due to a family history of ovarian cancer I opted for removal of all ovaries and tubes. It took a week or two for me to settle down on the patches, but know my mood is steady - first time in 20 years - I used to suffer PMT in a big way (or rather the family suffered my symptoms).

It was the best thing I ever did having the patches - they don't work for everyone, but they do for me!
