Would those of you who have been awarded the HRSA nursing scholarship each please outline your application package for us? Doesn't have to be scary specific, but just outline what you told them? Like your work history, what volunteer work you did, what you said in your essays, what kind of people wrote your letters, things like that, so we have a better idea of how to be as competitive as possible. Thanks!

This year has gone by so fast. They haven't been very helpful about giving me ideas of hospitals to work in Southern California. I appreciate this scholarship and I want to work in an underserved clinic/hospital, but I also want things to work out at home where I am from.

HRSA - Find a Health Center - Search Page You can search for acceptable places here. Also, you should have a case manager. Email them a list of all the places with addresses, that you are interested in. They will reply with a yes or no. You should definitely start networking/contacting/volunteerng now at the places you are interested in because it is tough everywhere. Best wishes.

As for the application, all I can say is to make the essay original. Make sure it paints a picture of who you truly are and how you want to make a difference. Keep a pen and paper near you at all times and use those ideas.

I wish that list actually had jobs available haha. Are we really given just five months to look for a job? I fear I will have to work out of state. Will they help us find a facility that for sure has jobs available if it has to be out of state? Seems like it's going to be a long and tiring process finding a job, plus I will have to take my NCLEX. Thanks.

Taxes are killing me.

I'm a 12-13 scholarship recipient and just now trying to do taxes. I received the 1099 misc and a w2 for stipend. How are other people reporting this? Just entering the 1099 misc as other income into tax software and it's telling me I owe 1000s in back taxes. Am I doing this correctly? I understand the handbook states that all the nsp is taxable, but I was under the impression that was true only for scholarships greater than tuition and fees?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks!

I haven't done mine yet, but I hear people are finding out they owe back around that much via the facebook group. I'm not looking forward to doing mine.

That's interesting. I didn't owe much at all for the scholarship in taxes, and got back a pretty high refund return. I was expecting a lot to owe because that's what everyone talked about last year, but I found for me that isn't true.

Glad to hear that you got a nice return jtboog2003,

Just curious, did you claim the scholarship as extra income in the 1099 misc section or as a scholarship under deductions?

Hey, sorry didn't know you had asked me about it. If memory serves me right, it was the 1099 Misc. form that I did. When I received all my tax things in the mail from HRSA, the monthly stipend money was a W-2, and the scholarship was a 1099 form.
