HRSA Nurse Corps 2015-2016

Published

Hello,

I am entering a nursing grad program in the fall and have questions about the HRSA app.

I took all my prereqs after graduating undergrad and got a 4.0 on those. What do I put as my cumulative GPA?

And for the scholarship, how much do they usually give out? The entire tuition an applicant requests? Or maybe just $1000 a semester? And even if you get a $1000, are you still required to work the same amt of time as those who get their full tuition covered?

Thanks!

Has anyone heard back yet? I'm still under review....

I called the customer service number and I was told we would be contacted by September 30th at the latest! They will email and make sure you respond or they will move on to an alternate next candidate. I hope they don't actually the that long!

In Maryland did anyone get a response. Called today and was told that they did start sending out approvals for the HRSA Scholarship program...Anyone out there hear anything yet? Anxious.com :yeah:

Nothing yet. I'm starting to check obsessively! When were we supposed to hear? I felt like it was the beginning of August last year. Any other thoughts?

There is a much more popular thread on here, where many have received a credit check, I haven't but like I said, many others have.

Hello!

I too have applied for the HRSA Nurse Corps scholarship. This is the one for entering/current undergraduate students seeking a BSN through regular or accelerated programs.

From my understanding, the scholarship pays books, fees, tuition, other reasonable expenses, and provides a $1321/month stipend, or so. It says they show preference for accelerated programs over regular BSN programs, but maybe someone can confirm or deny that.

The applications have been in review from the date the application period closed and will likely remain in that state until the decision announcement date, which is the very last day of Septemeber, 2015. The info booklet says that they will be 100% unable to provide any updates on the status before the decision date, and I would count on that being the case!

To anyone who is/has received this exact loan, how did the process go? How were you notified and when? What was paid for under other reasonable expenses? What has it been like when looking for a job with this commitment? Are employers excited to hear about this or do you not tell them? Are you working in a rural or urban setting, and what fields are you all working in?

Thank you you so much for your advice and guidance!

Well, I guess I'll drop my BSN program ~ school starts 8/22, about 6 weeks before they will decide. That's kind of crazy that the decisions would be made in September when many California CSU programs begin in August.

Also I wish I had seen this thread earlier, I started one about this application cycle and of course ignored.

Good luck to all

Wow, good timing! Just got an email today saying that I am a "finalist!"

From what I can find about previous years, as long as you get that email, you get the scholarship as long as you submit the requested additional documentation within their time frame.

My program started this summer because it is an ABSN. Does anyone know how they back-pay the student loans that were utilized to pay for this first term?

Does anyone have any other information about the process at this point?

anie10, I hope that you're able to pursue your degree! It sounds like they finalize everything by late September, but you should find out sooner than that. There is also the chance that you're like the next person on their list and chances are, someone's response time frame would run out and you'd get a call the morning after dropping the program! I hope you get to stick with it, even if it requires some loans at first! There are MANY other scholarships available, and even more become available once you have completed one term of nursing school!

Best of luck!!!

My BSN program begins 8/22, so a decision even on 8/31 does not allow me to remain in the program. California is unlike any other state.

Of course I will pursue my degree. I am dual enrolled ADN and BSN. I just wanted the government that I give so much of my money to, to pay for BOTH my degree programs. I have no clue what is meant by "completed one term of nursing school."

I cannot take loans, and there aren't many scholarships availble, wish there were.

Good luck to everyone.

Hi everyone, still anxiously awaiting 9/30 to come around. I checked my credit report today and I do have a inquiry from CREDCO on 3/26. I read in previous years that this may be a good sign? Anyone ever have their credit checked but not received the award?

BertG77, I could not have said it better, myself! I am a recent recipient of the Nurse Corps Scholarship, as well, and answering these questions is complicated as well as very personal. I agree wth BertG77: why would you even apply for the scholarship if you do not have a desire to serve the community? That is the whole purpose of the scholarship: to help fulfill a need in underserved communities. Is it worth it? Well, that is the personal question. For me: HECK YEAH! But this isn't for everyone. First, fill out that FAFSA--it's a must. Do some soul-searching: why do you want to go to nursing school? Why do you want to become a recipient of the NURSE Corps Scholarship? Are you prepared to do what it takes to fulfill the service that is expected of you afterwards? Really think hard on these questions and your answers.

I'm planning on applying for this scholarship. Im very very nervous because the application will open right when the deadline to apply for my schools ADN hits. And I cannot afford the ADN without this. I'm considering doing the LVN program as that will allow me to work full time. Its just heartbreaking to settle for less than what my goal is. As for the credit check is it just in regards to your STUDENT loan history or is it your credit in general. I have horrible credit but none of my student loans have ever been in default.
