12 hr Shifts on Holidays

Hi, I was wondering if any of you had/have been working 12 hr shifts for holidays. If so, how does that work with your unit. Do you work one of the holidays, which holidays or holiday combos, and how does it work with the following years? Does it alternate, skip a year or two before you work it again? My unit is switching over from 8 hr shifts to 12 hr shifts for holidays and we are all freaking out!! Our manager didn't really get into details so we are all anxious. Please tell me what your thoughts are. Likes/Dislikes. Thank you

My unit rotates holidays, and we work every other. So one year I would work Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Christmas; the next year I would do July 4, Thanksgiving and New Years. I work 12 hour shifts. The holiday runs from 11 pm the night before until 11 pm the night of the holiday. The only one we work both days is Christmas Eve & Christmas and New Years Eve & New Years Day. Hope this helps a little :)

Around here, everyone wants to work the holidays (we get paid double time) so getting the holidays off isn't too hard. But this is prison. At the hospital, everyone always wanted the holidays off. We rotated so if you had Christmas off one year, you were going to work it the next.

We only worry about Christmas and New Years. One year you work one, and the next year you work the other. The rest of the holidays we just follow the schedule.
