HR going over benefits and pay during first interview?

Published

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I had my first interview as a new grad for a RN position. During my interview with HR the nurse recruiter went over benefits and pay. Following the interview I met with two different nurse directors for the two hiring floors. I was introduced to staff and given a tour of the floor from both directors. Is this a good sign? Is it standard for HR to go over benefits and pay with everyone before an actually job offer? Like I said this was my first nursing interview so just wondering how all this works.

Thanks

Each interview I went on included information on benefits. I'm not sure how standard it is but I definitely wouldn't read too much in to that. How did things seem with the nurse directors and staff?

Thanks for responding hiddencatRN. Well the first nurse director was cordial but a bit under the weather. I still continued to be energetic and pleasant but I could tell she really wasnt feeling well. The second director was more energetic, we spoke longer, and she said certain things during our conversation that made me feel like she was really interested. After the interview she also said I would hear from them soon. So right now I'm really not sure what to make of it. In the mean time I plan on sending a thank you note and then proceed with my job hunt. Hopefully I will hear from them soon.

I do not think it is standard. I think they want you to know what you're getting yourself into. I've had two interviews during which salary and benefits were discussed. I was offered both of the jobs. This just may be coincidence.

I had my first interview yesterday and I discussed benefits and salary with the nurse recruiter before interviewing with the nurse manager of the floor, and shadowing another nurse. I don't think it's standard practice at every hospital, but since benefits and pay are pretty much the same for all new grads, it probably doesn't take them that much extra time. i think it's kind of nice that you can do everything all in one day.

Good luck with the job prospect!

This happened to me at the 2 hospitals I interviewed at as well. You speak with HR first and they go over benefits and pay. Then you meet with nurse recruiters to talk more specifically about my nursing interest. It was from there that the interviews with nurse managers/hiring managers were set up. Then a separate interview happens with each floor manager/hiring manager.:uhoh3:
