I noticed this position online. The only thing is you have to commit to 1 year. usually when they attach this it means working conditions are not good! any info from anyone who is familiar with this? By the way it is a training position for CNA's who want to be PCTs they will hire you to start on April and then you begin the training class in Jul-Sept to be a PCT

I have looked into that program but I was thinking that 1-year contract was a way for the hospital to guarantee that they aren't wasting their money training a person who will leave them in a couple weeks. The program is also for nursing students (according to the website).

Hey there. I went through the program. It's a good way of getting yourself established as a CNA especially in a hospital; especially if you have very little experience or if your're in or planning on attending a nursing program. The only problem that you'll probably have will be the pay. At entry level the pay is only $13 day shift, $15-$16 for nights after the PCT training is completed. Although, prior to the completion of the program the pay is less than $11. So depending on your life style, the money makes it a lot to think about. But like the other poster said, this is a "paying dues" period to ensure you're serious and not trying to waste time or money. Overall the program is really good. It's taught at the community college(HCC) next door to the hospital, and it's taught by the Director Of Nusing at Howard General (very nice and down to earth person--seriously). While your're in the program you only have to work 4 days at the hospital instead of 5 because the hours you spend in class count as work time.
Another option is to take the class and bear the expense out of your own pocket. A lot of times the hospital offers PCT positions to people who've taken the class on their own and maintained good GPA and attendance. Good luck with your plans! Perhaps I'll see you around the hospital one day.
Wow! pay is less than $11 before the program? how can one survive in MD on that pay? Man I am disappointed. Im looking to leave NYC but I cant survive on that in MD. the pay after the program is done the pay is not bad. geez ill keep looking thanks for the info!
If your concerned about pay maybe you should look at DC hospitals they pay is usually higher in DC than in MD

I know this is a old post but i don't know how to ask my own question and this is the closest match to what i wanted to ask, has anyone gone through the program the "advanced patient care theory" class at Howard County Community College and not through the hospital (I mean had to pay for it yourself) and had trouble finding a job? I ask this because they don't do clinical experience there and I don't know if you get certified or anything. I just want someones option on it that's done the program. Is it worth it?
