How does the waiting list process work?

Published

quick question.... if I apply to a university and get placed on the waiting list, do I have to start a whole new application for the following year??? how does the waiting list process work?

The wait list will probably be specific to your university, you may have to call and ask them. For me it was a way to rank perspective students. They assigned points for previous educational performance and experience, previous medical experience, entrance test performance, and some community involvement. Then they went down the list and gave acceptance letters from the top down.

Hope this helps.

It seems to be dependent on your school. At my current school (community college), you have to request each semester to be placed on the list for consideration. If you don't do that, in writing, you are removed from the wait list. I have also applied to a 4-year school for a BSN program, and there, once you are on the wait list, you don't have to request to be kept on there.

I agree, you need to look into how your school does it. Some schools here throw out their list once the class begins, others work off of a continuous list.
