Hi. I am about to give my two weeks notice to my current employer. I found out 2 weeks ago I have a new job, but I wanted to wait until I sign the paperwork and get the physical before I tell them. This will be happening tomorrow. I have heard through numerous people that management will make your life horrible for your remaining time there. My question is, how have you all been treated after giving your notice you are leaving? Has anyone ever been fired after giving their notice? I do not put anything past this facility and that is another reason I have decided to wait longer to give my notice. I have already been treated bad, so I can handle that. I will not be fired because I am leaving. I have also received 2 performance appraisals stating I fully met their expectations in 6 months I have been there.

Do you honestly care? You already have a new job and obviously there was something about the old job that made you want to leave it. So what does it matter how they treat you? As long as you have done everything right, give them the proper notice and show up for all remaining shifts, doing your job well even though you are leaving - you won't have any problems that should affect you.

I've left 2 jobs and was treated the same as though I hadn't resigned, which was very well. Both hospitals stated I left in good standing and I'm always welcome back.
There is one problem that I forgot to mention...sorry. I have to call off next week because even after talking to both managers and writing it in the request book, they didn't give me the day off for my Mom's surgery in another state. I know they did this as a test to see if I would call off.

I was treated well every time I resigned, one facility did hire me back and all stated that I was rehirable. The last position I resigned from I gave the unit manager a "heads up" about 5 weeks prior to my leaving. She gave me a very nice referal and told me to come back in the future. Each time I left to expand my nursing experience, this time it was so I could ski on fresh powder too LOL as I just cannot afford an expensive vacation to the nicer ski slopes.
Sorry to hear that you were not given the day off for Moms surgery and no one would trade with you. This must not be a pleasant place for you, not all units or facilities are the proper match for everyone.
Good luck with your new job!
Well,tata,
welcome to P poor management that is so well known by we experienced nurses. I was "denied" a saturday off last year to attend MY OWN SON'S WEDDING! I made the request 8 months earlier! They then said that "You can have it off, if you can find coverage". I told them they could find "coverage" themselves and for that matter they "could find coverage for the entire department permanently". I was a MAD LITTLE SOUTHERN WOMAN that day! I took off the entire weekend too,BTW. I just hate getting pushed to the wall like that. You do whatever is necessary to take care of your family. A JOB IS NOT YOUR FAMILY----DON'T YOU EVER FORGET THAT!!!! Like I said earlier, "carry on"...class dismissed...

Show up as required in order to fulfill your remaining obligations. This way, YOU retain your own SELF respect if nothing else.
Wishing you well in your new position!
Cheers ....
Grace, I respectfully disagree. If she spoke with the managers previously about her mother's surgery and they denied the day off, quite personally, they could bite me! I'm a long time OR nurse and if my family's butts are ever on the OR table my butt will be waiting to speak to the doc immediately post op. BTW, I love the above quote by Karen Alexander!
No worries, ebear.
I didn't mean for her to NOT be with her Mum. Just meant for the remaining times at work to stand tall, show up and be able to walk away knowing she did the right thing.
Sorry if I wasn't articulate enough with my post! LOL
I guess, being the age I am, I've learned it's wise to NOT burn all your bridges as we journey through life. Where possible, of course!
Cheers................
PS: Tatarn; I wish your Mum all the very best with her surgery! Hope her recovery is speedy and uneventful.
Best Wishes to you both.
Gotcha, Grace!
